Need advice please:

Last June, I received a state tax refund of $800. My uncle, who is a CPA and financial analyst, regularly files my taxes.

We determined last July that I had not completely financed my IRA contribution for that year. We sent an amended return to the IRS and Statw with under $300 payments. The IRS had no complaints and neither did Louisiana.

I received letter from dept if revenue claiming I owed them nearly 2,000 dollars. I then sent the state copies of the cancelled check they cashed for the amended return.

The state has not provided me with documentation or proof that I owe them 2k dollars. They just applied this years tax refund against my alleged liability. They are threatening to suspend my drivers incense.

I have suffient assets to cover claim but how can the Revenue department go around charging folks without evidence or reasons? Is Louisiana that messed up financially ?

Always paid my taxes and don't have a criminal record. What's going on ?

They just drafted my wife's business account for sales tax from June 2016 unannounced, claiming a check had not been received. She sent them the check, with the state stamp on it, that had cleared. Still waiting to get it cleared up, but that's some shady shite. She never received a notice, yet they claim to have mailed notices and a draft is last resort.

I'm in the midst of a death battle with the federal Department of Education, since August of 16....talk about a cluster in motion. Did not know customer service could be so poor. Have lost my Christianity no less than a half dozen times...I assume they must think I work for them!!!

Trying to deal with Louisiana department of revenue is worse than dealing with a 4th grade special ed class. I'm not sure where they find their employees but they sure know how to pick them.

I don't like dishonest folks in our government. I do the right thing. I work and I pay taxes. I don't use drugs or alcohol. I treat my neighbor fairly. I have never been to jail or arrested.

Why can't my government be honest ?

I should mail these dishonest cocksuckers $400 worth of pennies

Coping with the incompetency of gov't and the LADR is much easier when you're under the influence.

I just got a bill for business taxes owed in 2015 with a late penalty. I didn't form a LLC until mid 2016. :|

I routinely get bills saying I owe a few hundred dollars in taxes for one year, then a few months later get a notice that I overpaid my tax bill by the same amount w/ an attached check.

It's to the point that I now ignore the first letter, and risk some increased interest, and wait for the second letter with the amended amount due (which has been a lot less or $0 100% of the time).

Thanks. I am glad that I am not alone when it comes to this.

How about this hilarity - I sent a check with my estimated tax payment for Q1 2017, which the LADR cashed. Three weeks later I got a "refund" check for the exact same amount. Smh

I got a bill last year saying I didn't pay withholding taxes for $850 (which I did) in 2014 with interest and penalties adding up to $1,350. I sent them a letter with my W-2 and my tax return from 2014.

I do my 2016 federal and state taxes and get part of my refund withheld for $1,350 by the IRS for LA Dept of Revenue. (Was in grad school and paid my max student loan interest so I got a large refund.)

I finally get a response from the LA Dept of Fyourlife and they basically said "My bad. To claim your refund back you must reply within 15 days with a refined return for 2014."

They also sent my father a notification that he overpayed $50 for 2015 saying he needs to refile to collect it. He declined.

Ha - this actually reminds me of another fun LDR story I went through. While in college I apparently just neglected to file a state return one year (I was working part-time). 2-3 years later the state sends me a notice saying I owed them some arbitrary amount in the range of $850 (seems to be their go-to catch all). I simply filed the state return and they ended up sending me a refund for $38.

Probably why I've always filed no matter how little I earned during the year.. and there were some pretty lean years

I haven't received anything like this from LDR. I mean, I am an accountant so they could try, but my taxes are only based on actual forms. So that's two strikes against them.

I can't speak to the qualifications of the employees at LDR and after a quick search, couldn't find a job posting, but this seems like some basic stuff that is getting messed up

never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.

And they can and will revoke your driver's license. The incompetence at LDR has reached a new high. They once gave very good service. Tha is not the case anymore.

They definitely had malice when they denied my flex fuel tax credit. I called their bluff and took them to the tax arbitrator.

In the initial hearing the arbitration board was like "really?" To the LDR lawyer, who promptly said we will pay him.

Like wtf? Why not just admit they owe it from thevget go, instead of making me take a day off work to go to a meeting.

Best part was they still dragged their feet on paying me until I started hassling the arbitration board to schedule the trial because LDR was not responding and clearly misled them and me.
