Told my wife to shop for new insurance today, looks like we're going to Geico and we'll be saving about 50 bucks/mo, before the 14% increase.

Let me throw Safeco's name into the ring. I was with progressive for 10+ years and they kept increasing my rates every year even with all these supposed discounts and clean driving records. Safeco's came in and beat them by 30%.

Now, my wife was in an at fault accident a few weeks ago. The claim process was a breeze. Waiting to see if our premium increases.

So far, though, two thumbs up...

I have all lines with Farm Bureau and no one has been able to come within 20%. My brother switched to Liberty Mutual recently and he said they were about 20% lower than Farm Bureau but I've read they are bad about jacking peoples rates up after the first year.

I just switched to Geico and ended up saving $3000 a year. I just switched to Geico and ended up saving $3000 a year. I priced a few other companies and here's what the rankings looked like based on price, Geico < State Farms < Allstate < 21st century.

I just want to let everybody in this thread know that based on a large number of algorithms, an insurance company that saves person A money won't necessarily save person B money. But insurance is probably something that should be shopped for every couple of years, unless you really love your agent.

I to just got my wife's renewal on her car insurance and it went down close to $20 bucks. I have most of my home, auto, life stuff with State Farm and have never had any issues.

I wonder does the increase hit everyone or is it based on specific coverage? My insurance is up in July, I guess it my go up then, for what its worth I drive a 2002 Tacoma and the wife drives an 2006 Tribute.

I just renewed my State Farm home and Auto this month and it actually went down 10% for the year. Still cheaper than Gieco, USAA and liberty for me. In fact, even when I was active duty, I never found Geico or USAA to be cheaper at all. I know service guys have some blind loyalty to USAA for whatever reason but when I had them years ago they jerked me around on a few claims and underpaid what they should have so, other than to check their rates I don't even give them a second look.

Pretty sure mine was due to a life insurance policy my dad transferred to me. I don't have my other life with them so I'm sure I got a discount for an additional line

The pricing on insurance can be incomprehensible. A few years ago we added renters' insurance and our total cost went down because of the "multiple line" deduction. The value of the discount was higher than the monthly cost of the renters' insurance.

I sell Safeco and I will say they have a box and if you fit into it they can't be beat. Not for someone like Lynxcat who swaps all the time but more geared towards longtime SF and Allstate customers. If you have good credit and been with the same company you are currently with forever they are as low as you can go. I have routinely saved folks 40% over the course of a year. They write an annual policy so it does not go up every 6 months. Also they did go up in rates 2.5% in Mississippi this year.

I just changed from SF after 10 years. I had never changed prior to that. Based on what you are saying, I would be a perfect candidate for Safeco. I have never considered the company but I will take a took if GEICO rakes me over the fire in 6 months.

I've found that insurance is like renting an apartment. If you stay with the same one for too long you'll end up over-paying by *a lot*.

I had progressive from 03 to 14.
I started tracking in 2008. My average per month from 08 to 14 were
$225
$212
$162 (I had a ticket roll off my record. F YOU LAKE PROVIDENCE!)
$168
$160
$190 (random increase)
$177

I switched to Safeco's and have been at $117 since sept 14. Same coverage, same vehicles (car and truck), no tickets (since 07).

update on my safeco savings. went up from $2200 to $3300 for no apparent reason this upcoming year. emailed my agent and told them to get it back down or i'm gone. I checked esurance and their yearly total (paid monthly) is ~$2500 "paid in full" price for equal coverage is $1300 for the year. I feel like there's a catch.

If you pay a lump sum in full up front it's $1,300? Have you been happy with Safeco?

i've been happy with safeco up until i opened my bill and saw a 50% increase from last year.

yes to the $1300 for esurance. It's $2600 if i pay monthly.
And the policies are apples to apples.

I didn't realize you were talking about a different insurer altogether (esurance). How are they viewed in general when it comes to claims?
