Or biotech or health care? I bought, or sold puts on, XBI, XPH, and XLV after the sector dropped.

I've lost my arse over the past year or so, mostly from not paying attention.
Hoping ACAD pays off here shortly tho.

They are NOT for the faint of heart.

Profited some early this year and last year on the ups and downs of pharma. It's just a bitch to keep a constant look out because if you don't you can get really burned in this sector.

Currently not buying or holding any pharma

GILD is a long term hold for me. It's dropped off, along with other companies in the sector, over the past few months. I didn't find that the fundamental picture had really changed, so I added to it a few weeks ago in the upper 80's.

Biotechs are down 35% from their high in 2015. Compared to the SPX being down 4%. Biotechs have rallied 7% from February lows while the SPX has rallied 13%.

Not a good sector at the moment.

Uh oh... better keep checking on them every day then. I had a couple of stocks crash last year (GMCR, BIDU) so I usually only trade ETFs now. Sold GILD last year when it came back up and made a profit.

Do you "trade" ETFs on a daily or weekly basis? Or do you invest in them long term?

I "day trade" LABU and LABD when I have time to watch like a hawk. I don't do it often, but it's pretty easy to scalp the shite out of them. Crazy swings.

I have before, but I typically don't. It's an easy way to get trapped. The decay guarantees a loss if you hold for too long.

So, unless momentum is carried in one direction for a sustained amount of time it's a losing proposition. But that's too hard to predict. It was a little easier when hildabeast's "witch hunt" on biotech was fresh in the news cycle. I held some labd there and was rewarded, but overall it's already risky enough.

I'll admit, I know nothing about biotech except that it was great in 2014-15 and now it's been on it's way down since.

I mean, cheap debt, expansion of the orphan status classifications, and the VRXs (pure greed) of the world basically made a big bubble. It has popped or is popping still. I don't know which.

Now, the science, there's a guy on here that can explain all that to you...

I sell puts when they are down and try to time the expiration dates with when I think they will come back up (usually about 3-6 mo. time frame, based on charts and general sector trends). A lot expire unexercised, which is awesome. If they are exercised and I have to buy then I sell calls on them as soon as I can. No, I don't make trades every day and only have about 6 puts out right now.

If they drop too badly (like XBI and XLE) and I get stuck with them, then I hold until they come back up (usually less than a year). It's been working really well so far, but I've only been trading options about 3 years.

Like others in here, I'm holding GILD but that's about it. Not buying much in that sector at the moment.
