I hear people say this occasionally, and I don't get it.
If they go to public school, it certainly does

It may seem so at first, until you've got to post a bail.

Ouch. Didn't realize cost of living was so high there.

I've had to go up a few times a year for work. Got any suggestions for brunch spots on the weekends? Nice bar, good food.

If they're old enough to go to jail, they're old enough to pay me back. I had to pay my dad back .

Most in New Orleans at least charge an application fee. Many are starting to require non-refundable deposits too. The problem is that many parents will apply to multiple daycares and hold spots at one or two daycares while waiting to see if they get into their first choice. It creates problems.

the most we paid for waiting lists was $65 in Baton Rouge...for LSU and for ELC (1st UMC). was around 30-40th down the list at both. LSU finally called at age 3.

Pretty sure we paid nonrefundable registration fees like $150 where we committed to going.

I agree with everybody. Child care is much more expensive then I ever thought before I was a parent. I'm glad I chose the more expensive option I have had friends that tried to save a few bucks and go for the "other" preschools and it's not going so well. It's your kid you want the best possible for them.

I was on a wait list for one in old metairie. Got an email u got in just needed to pay the $400 application fee to go with the $990 a month cost. Luckily we worked out a part time deal with a different day care and the mom in law

i believe it. When we lived in NYC, we were wait listed for a daycare that was $25k for 9 months. That was about 6-7 years ago. I was floored until i heard the cost of some of the "nicer" day cares.

Yes it's normal, unless you send your kids to "sketchy tots, inc."

Yes, normal.

Recently lost a $200 deposit to a freakin church daycare.

This daycare was our 2nd choice but had an opening so we signed our kid up. The same afternoon, our 1st choice called with an opening. Called the church first thing the following morning to see about getting deposit back. Said we recently had a baby and since it was less than 24 hours later, we were hoping they would make an exception. Not a chance sir, it says in black and white on the registration non-refundable.
