Would you take $50k in January instead of $100k salary throughout the year?

No.

If you had $100k in financial aid and they called you asking if you would only pay $50k, would you accept? Yes.

There's no way any dentist is so starved for cash that he'll accept a 50% discount to get cash right now, especially if it's just $1600.

No problem if he says no, but doesn't hurt anything to ask.

Except you will probably piss him off and I'm not sure if I'd want to annoy someone who works on my teeth, LOL.

If you are short because you are trying to pay off other debts, then just tell him this was a large unexpected expense, both in timing and in not knowing what the total would be, and you be able to pay him X a month until paid off.

hes already on a payment plan, and now hes trying to give a small/moderate sum up front so he can get out of paying half.

My dentist offers 5% off if you pay cash before procedure.

That's fine. We live in a major metropolitan city and dentists' are easy to come by.

Biggest scam going

What profession gets paid up front, doesn't warranty their work, charges again to repair their own mistakes. They are always ahead of you on the money.
Its impossible to know which ones are good clinicians.

Good luck

The procedure has a fixed cost. Your wife received the procedure and it was completed as advertised without any mistakes. Now you don't want to pay the full price because it's too expensive? This entire scenario is absurd. Pay your bills

...are you fricking retarded?

Eta: sorry about the language...I thought this was the ot. However, I still cannot change my post. I believe it is applicable. There is a difference when negotiating when one party is special.

I really cannot fathom this post. Why in the world would a dentist rather receive $800 today than $1,600 over 8 months? That makes no logical sense.

Pay your bill.

The only medical discounts that I have ever received is if paid in full within 2 weeks of procedure(s).

Not all dentists are like this, I had a dental checkup a couple years ago where a filling I had gotten a few years earlier broke and was coming out. My dentist scheduled me for another appointment and fixed the issue free.

Not completely true. Crowns and implants are warranted.

It seems to be a growing trend, my current dentist gives a warranty in writing on their work. They also go over line by line what your procedure will cost and have you sign off on it. My previous dentist was old school, if something needed to be re-worked a year later you paid again in full.

Just don't pay him anything at all. You'll be sent to the debt collectors at a minimum, maybe even sued but eventually you'll file for bankruptcy which is what your future holds anyways.
