Not really my style, but I don't try to get noticed by my watches either

I was thinking about that reading this thread. I have not worn a watch since high school. I've got a cell phone. Obviously young professionals don't wear a watch nearly as much as people as old as Broke.

Oh I love automatics, even love to have a hand wind movement at some point, but I don't buy them to be noticed. I actually just bought a watch, but there's a 4 month wait for production. It's very low key.

And us old people who manage you notice these things. It screams tech dependent.

Yup, like it or not, people in power or those who are influential and have the $$$ pay attention to what you wear in order to know who they are dealing with.

Shoes and Watch are the two biggest to look for.

I used to be staunchly in the "Watches are stupid" camp and Broke may even remember threads years ago where I argued they were. But I have completely switched sides.

We don't get into these positions of power by not looking for things.

If you do get a used Rolex you absolutely should get a Submariner.

That Submariner 14060 is the quintessential Rolex. Expect to pay between $4 and $5k for a good used one with box and papers. If you ever have to sell it you'll probably get all your money back. Going a little down market, the Explorer I is worth a look.

This is the most simple and versatile watch Rolex makes - it's also one of the cheapest. A used one can be found between $3 and $4k in great condition. It fits all the OP's check marks of being able to be worn with a suit, and it says "Rolex" pretty big on the dial.

I'm saving up for this: The GMT Master II with the new black/blue bezel:

I'll be saving for a while.

Sadly, I'm the same way. I use the date function on my watch as much as I use the time. I just hate that the Sub 16610 commands about $1000 more than the no-date version. But once again: resale value is excellent.

I love the Rolex Daytona (I just like the way it looks). However, I don't know that I will ever be able to say "Yes I will pay $20, 000 for this watch." I feel like there will always be somewhere I will feel the money is better spent.

Unless I win a $300 Million lottery

ETA: Broke if you know of something that looks similar let me know. I really want a Walnut/ Saddle leather strap

I have been considering the Suunto Elementum Terra but I just don't think I can pull that off with a suit

Go to Timezone .com.and look under the "Showcase" or "Sales Corner" in the drop down from the Community tab. There are several people on there who are reputable. If you want to check someone's rep, there is another site called something like "Good Guys. " If you search, put that term in with watches and that message board should be easily found.

I bought an Omega on TZ and it was on my wrist less than 24 hours later. Rolexforums is still my most trusted site though, their mods are super vigilant.

My friend has that exact watch. It flew off when he was on a roller-coaster in Ohio, never to be seen again. Luckily the store he bought it from was understanding and sold him another one "at cost."

Rolex is def a nice watch, but to me is it so cliche to get one... I wouldn't mind owning a submariner, but def not my first choice.

8 bottles of 23.

Breitling

As long as you're not paying anywhere near MSRP, Breitling is a fine choice. You can usually negotiate about 20% if buying new, and their resale falls pretty sharp from there. TZ is full of newer watches for about half of retail. Before settling on my Planet Ocean I looked hard at the Breitling SuperOcean but the Omega was just calling me more.

Couldn't have said this better myself.
