Select quote will find you a cheap policy. But it really depends what you're looking for. These are all good companies with good policies. Like all industries, there are agents/reps with limited knowledge or "product pushers" representing those companies, along with some really good ones.

Southern Farm Bureau is also highly rated. Disclaimer-I retired from them. Others mentioned are also legit. Be advised that most on-line sites will price you at their Super Preferred rate. You may not get that rate after the underwriting process.

I agree. You hope to live a long time so you want a stable company that will be around to pay out, and make it easy, in the hopefully distant future. Look for a stable company vs. the lowest quote.

I used Zander to get some quotes. Recommended by Dave Ramsey. AIG was the company I chose.

If you want term insurance, just go with an online quote machine like selectquote or zander and get a cheap Banner or AIG policy. If you want whole life, go with a mutual company like Guardian, Ohio National, or Penn Mutual. Do not buy universal or variable life.
