Just something interesting I found on Reddit. Assuming the data is reliable, there were some things I was surprised with:

Nothing really surprising about that...

The only one they are missing is digging in on the 1/3 have no savings.

If I remember right, the deeper number is that over 50% of people have less than 10k in saving/retirement.... I think it was closer to 60 or 70%

That's sad. Outside of extenuating circumstances, there's no excuse for not having an emergency fund set up or for having less than $10k for retirement even a few years out of school.

Also, if that was posted on reddit, chances are the top rated comment was about increasing minimum wage and slashing executive pay.

According to Social Security, 90% of Americans are retiring at or below poverty income levels.

Only 23% of people think working hard translates into wealth? People are fricking lazy. Oh and I refuse to identify myself as a millennial.

The question was stated "it's common for people to become rich if they work hard." Just because someone doesn't think that hard work guarantees them riches doesn't make them lazy.

This. One of my best friends works 16 hour days, and can't seem to get ahead. he is the hardest worker I know. He just makes horrible decisions.

The actual excerpt from the Pew Study LINK

quote:

In 2009, nearly 4 in 10 Americans (39 percent) felt that it was common for someone to start poor, work hard,
and become rich. Five years later, just 23 percent of Americans believe that.

Born losers, realists, or both?

30. Refuse to identify as a millennial. Hate the excuses and bullshite this generation used as a crutch. You want to be successful, get your act together and bust your arse. Sky is the limit.

The term "rich" is deceiving.

Can a common poor person work their way up to be a millionaire through hard work?
Maybe. Will need some luck too.

Can a common poor person work their way up to earn a good and decent living?
Definitely

Is the millennial intentionally sexually ambiguous?

Why do people give a shite what generational "group" they are in? It says nothing about you individually. Such a dumbass concept

You are a millennial. It doesn't really matter how you feel about it Trying to change your generational status, is very millenial in nature though actually

What does "rich" mean anyway? I feel like I would need about $5MM to feel "rich", and that's not happening any time soon.

All a lifetime of hard work will get you is a sore back. Working smarter, not harder, is the way to build wealth.
