Threads like these have me counting my blessings

Thanks to my employer, I only pay around 300 a month for my family of 4 for our blue cross PPO

It would be rough to have to budget 1000/mo for health insurance with mediocre coverage

So your income >$96,000 per year?

Well done.

Threads like this make me very thankful. Health insurance is like $70/month for only me. They put $500 in a HSA as well which covers most of my out of pocket during the year.

The Affordable care act is a joke for most people that had insurance before 2010. I negotiate the rates for our company. We have just over 25 employees. Our out of pocket costs were a tad over 200K in 2013. Our renewal rate for 2016 is a tad over 300K for the year. We paid 100% of the employees benefits until this year. This year employees are having to contribute $600 per year. It just isn't sustainable for employers that actually pay the majority of the costs. I feel for the OP. Its shitty for everyone. The individual market is 10 times as screwed up as the group market.

How does anyone afford this? Maybe I'm naive because I've never made any real money, but if my health insurance suddenly spiked $700 per month, my family would be on the street.

Seriously this, I pay $40 a month for health insurance.

Heard that!

Damn sorry to hear this dude. That is ridiculous. Lucky I work for an insurance company as our rates have only gone up about 6% in the last 2 years and we have been told that the increase is only based on new taxes/fees brought on by the ACA. I fear that we have only seen the beginning with these increases too. Moving forward, I think that double/triple digit rate increases will be the norm for several years.

Unless the rules changed, when I was in the business, you could not buy on the exchange if you could participate in an employer offered plan.

You pay more than that, your company just covers it for you. I'm the same way. But if my company didn't cover this expense, I would expect more in my salary to offset the costs.

He won't qualify for any subsidy if the premium cost of a self only policy through his employer plan is less than 9.66% of household income.

sad indeed. I know people who have to throw what would have been investment money at obamacare for their families now prohibiting their ability to put money into their 401k or IRA's.

try 13k a year for some people. You can max out you and your wife's IRA and still have change left over to trade with for this garbage called OBAMACARE is costing us.

Definately, sales are down to nearly nothing. We are in the drilling market.

I am going to put out my resume today. I would like to get into a different industry if possible, to avoid even more cuts. Possibly healthcare.

"IF" I get a lead and line something else up, I will go to my current employer and play hardball. I would do that now but I dont want to shoot myself in the foot.

Some of our employees were miffed at the fact they had to start paying $23.07 a paycheck for a BCBS PPO policy that has $750 deductible, $30 office co pay and great prescription benefits.

Mine is very similar, $87 per month $500 HSA. I didn't realize how good it was.

While I am happy for you, the truth is, everyone else on your parent's plan, and everyone else who is insured by the same company as your parents, is paying for your insurance.
