In 1993 when we both got to school, my dad might have been making $40k at best, with my Mom around $15k. When I got a job in college that paid well, I made $22k in a year and my dad told me I made more money as a college student that year than my mom ever did.

The $80k income was more around 2000, not '91. And they bought a $160k house that year, that they still live in, even though it's owned and he could sell it for $350k easily and it's far too big for just the two of them now.
