I don't currently have a chase card or any points card for that matter other than my Barclay arrival, but Im gonna cancel it soon possibly
Should I do a points promo card from chase and transfer to a southwest card?
When I go to SW website, it has fares around $600 RT to Orlando from New Orleans. That's insane to me, what gives?

The SW Chase card has a few 50k offers out there for $2k spending. You'd need about 20k more points to fully pay for all 4, but with that sign up alone, it should get you 3 of 4 paid for which is better than any other current CC offer right now.
If you wanted to pay for all 4 with points on SW, you could either get another SW card(they offer 2. Plus & Premier), which would put you at 104k points when minimum spend is met, and only $6k in spend away from getting a companion pass.
The other option would be to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. 40k points for $4k spend. Those points can transfer to Southwest.
AA Exec would pay for 3 flights, but it's going to cost you and really not a great redemption value especially considering you have to pay the annual fee. Plus, AA domestic award availability is just about trash.

I don't know, I see a lot on random days for sub $170.
Disney vacationers....the best of the best in the airports .

I'll look into the SW card first
I don't mind paying for some of the fares, just trying to save a little

I see the 50k SW card is a business card
For those that don't own a business, what do you typically do on these applications?
Just curious. I don't want to do the wrong thing and be declined or have my points forfeited

THere are 50k offers for the personal card with a referral. I don't have a referral link for you unfortunately, but if you want to have one sent you to, just post on flyertalk.
The plus is $69 and the Premier is $99

You don't have to have a business EIN to apply for a business card. You can still apply for a business card as a sole proprietor and use your SSN in place of an EIN. It's completely legal and on the up and up as long as you have the idea of opening up your own business. Don't lie about any portion. The idea of opening up a CC with zero revenue is that you want to have a card that tracks your business expenses separately so not to mingle funds.

Got the referral
I had to apply over the phone which was an absolutely awful experience

I am not an OT baller but I just started using the Capital One Quicksilver card. 1.5% cashback on all purchases, no limit on rewards. I am using it for absolutely everything and just paying it off. I am getting $100 just for spending $500 within the first 3 months on top of the 1.5% I am earning. Plan on doing this for a year before we head to Europe, should hopefully have saved up close to $1000 by then.

Jumping in late and possibly in the wrong spot, but I'm pretty sure that you can't buy your way into the companion status like that
I believe companion has to be earned by actually doing the 100 flights... Someone can correct me if wrong.

No. You're incorrect. I have it through credit card spend.

Are you coming out of pocket for flights/hotel?

This was it
quote:
Points purchased for personal use or as a gift, transferred points, points earned from program enrollment, Tier bonus points, flight bonus points, and Partner bonus points (with the exception of the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase) do not qualify as Companion Pass Qualifying Points
So you can get it through spend, but your 50k bonus doesn't count towards it... At least according to their website.
ETA: Thats what I remember reading. I considered getting the card and trying to add it to my existing flights this year and run it up to the companion status, but reconsidered after seeing the awards points for signing up didn't count.

The bonus counts as well. Program enrollment bonus is referring to sign up for rapid rewards. Not credit card enrollment.
The rapid rewards program does not differentiate how the points were earned when transferred in from chase.

Can I ask why? I have this card, and the 2 points for every dollar is the best offer I have seen.
Is there a reason people use a Capital One or Chase card instead of this one for rewards? Is it the way miles transfer to airlines/hotels?

With the new changes coming up I don't think the value proposition is there any more over a 2% cash back card.
Redemption is going down to 2.1, the fee is $89 and they are taking TripIt Pro out. If you do the math, you have to spend a shitload of money on the card to make up for the fee.
IMO, if you aren't going to pump and dump the elite cards and airline cards, you are better off keeping it simple with Citi Double Cash or Fidelity Amex.
Arrival+ and Cap One Venture are not keepers after the signup bonus.

Forget transferring points to a hotel. Terrible value IMO.
For airlines yes. You have to purchase the tickets and then get a fixed reimbursement with the Barclay's card. That's nice if you fly coach. If you want to fly first class it's a terrible value because you're playing face value for the tickets. I'm flying first class to and from Italy later this summer. Those tickets would be over a $20000 charge on the Barclay card. That's a lot of points. By using airline miles I got those two round trip tickets for less than 200000 miles total. That's a .10 valuation per mile spent which is almost 5 times the Barclay valuation if my math is correct.

Only thing holding me back is I don't have a flight I have to pay for coming up this year as they are all handled as of now, and I really want to use the $250 airfare credit twice, not just once, since you get it once per calendar year.
$500 is better than $250 just once and obvious better than that $450 fee, plus the points of course and the 1.6 to American if you need it.

I buy flights weekly so not an issue for me. I'm pretty sure giftcards to airlines count as well, so don't let it hold you up.

I knew I was overlooking something
Now I just have to figure out which airline I'm going to go with considering my likely 2016 destinations.
Oh snap, just remembered I do have a use this year.
