I think I'm going to get the Arrival+ for now (in the next month or two), use it for any spending that would normally be 1x for me, then survey the landscape in mid to late 2016 and see where we are.

Just a heads up, got my notice they are changing the terms on the Arrival+ card

Only 10% back on travel redemption instead of 20%, killer change. Effectively dropping me down to a 2.1% card now.

Redemption can only start at 100 dollars in points now instead of 25 dollars. Not a big deal

So if it was me, I would get the Arrival+ until the annual fee is due and downgrade.

The Citi Double Cash card comes out ahead until you spend 80K or so... assuming no bonus cash.

The Capital One Venture comes out ahead until you spend 27K. Due to it's lower annual fee. It also has a similar sign up bonus around $400.

Actually, I'm just looking at this for the first time in a while: am I seeing this correctly that it's been devalued to 5% redemption bonus?

Targeted offer?

Think I may MS this. Not huge, but 2x points on $2,500 in spend gets 5k SW points for $25 and with the companion pass that's essentially 10k points offering about $170 value or so.

quote:

Earn 2X points on purchases made at gas stations August 1–October 15.

Here's how:

1. Activate your offer by October 15, 2015.
Note: you'll need to activate even if you've done so for previous promotions.

2. Use your Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® Credit Card
for gas station purchases between August 1–October 15, 2015.

3. Earn 2 Rapid Rewards® Points per $1 spent on up to $2,500 in purchases at gas stations.1

I actually claimed I was going to cancel my AMEX SPG this year when the fee comes due, but after thinking about it, I'm not.

It's still only $65 this year, right?

I forget that Small business Saturday comes with a free $30 credit per card and since my wife is an authorized user, her card is also eligible for the $30 credit.

You have the Biz card? I'm thinking of maybe getting it. So they have a day where they give you a $30 credit or you have to do something? I hope this isn't on the personal card because I've missed that offer for about 7 years now

Right, going up to $95. That's good enough reason to call and threaten to cancel and end up with some free SPG points at least.

It's all cards. It's changed over the years, but $20-$45 has been the norm.

Last year was $10 credit for $10 spent at any small biz. Each card was eligible for 3 $10 credits.

It was pretty silly but funny. I believe I had 7 amex cards between my wife and I. Authorized users on the same card count as a distinct card and are eligible for the credits.

I walked in to a neighborhood grocery store and bought about $120 worth of stuff and told the lady I needed to split it 7 ways. Told her I was going broke and had a little room left on each card. I did the same thing at two different liquor stores. It was a stock the bar party before Christmas for free.

Alright, the last two months of hell are over. It was miserable but I'm back in the saddle.

Looking for a fresh kill.

Wife and I already got the 50k AA Plats.

Looks like my top options are Citi ThankYous and the Exec.

Anything else notable?

I got all the options in the world with Amex besides SPG if I should go that route.

Exec. 75k miles and Admirals Club membership so it doesn't matter if you aren't flying American.

Ya that's what I'm leaning towards to get up to 200k.

The Citi ThankYous would be great if I had something in mind for a partner (like Etihad) but I don't right now.

The gf wants an airline card Bc she wants to go overseas some time next year. What's her best route? I have the hotel part covered with my Amex Hilton card.

Alaska(BOA) - 25k points and $100 credit with $75 fee.

Citi AA card(plat or exec)

Hyatt card - 5k Hyatt points, $50 credit, and $2 free nights. I got just about $2,500 value out of my nights/points sign up bonus and got $50 in cash for doing it.

AMEX Business card. Pick it.

$500 gift cards cost $5 each. I'd buy 5 of them for $25 and the targeted SW credit card promo would give me double points. So, $2,500 in spend would net me 5k points for $25.

Nice work. I can't really go at Chase for a little while. I've had CSP, Freedom, Bold, Ink Plus, SW,British, United all in past two years.

Amex

been debating working on them. They are wide open.

Have you tried Everyday Preferred? I've been pretty solidly using Chase/SPG/Arrival+ but am dumping the latter at year end and could see EDP being a reasonable replacement. Lack of bonus sucks but maybe I'll grab a Gold/Plat for the first year sort of thing to boost it. I suppose I may have a promotion laying about somewhere.

Ah. I'm going to hit up the personal and business card every 90 days while it lasts. I have a feeling that the 90 day churn cycle has a limited shelf life and is still worth the $75 fee.

I haven't. I talk myself out of it every time. At some point, I think it would be a good card to grab.

Are you okay in coach or do you want to fly in business class?

If coach, the citi AA platinum card is tough to beat.

Business class to Europe not on BA(high fuel charges ~$450/ticket)
If business, I'd look in to the 75k Amex gold card. 85k points gets you 2 business class seats one way on Iberia. It's a little complicated though.

Chase United card is an option as well and provides some decent business availability.

Planning to fly 4 of us to Orlando in February from either BTR or MSY

Is there a good airline card I could get now with a decent bonus to offset the cost of the flights?

Haven't picked a carrier yet, so would hear suggestions there too

I don't fly for business much and when I do, it's on a corporate card

Eta: I'm thinking the AA executive card may be a good options

Which gas stations have the best card selection?

Southwest is the carrier I'd go with.
They offer the only non-stop to MCO that I'm aware of, you aren't bound by award availability, and it's probably the cheapest out of pocket points option you have. Probably ~17k points RT per person.

If you have a Chase UR card, you can get the SW card, and that should be very doable for all 4.
