Fro, are you liquidating these in $50 increments or just using them like credit for regular spending?

*since they are vanillas

With these cards I'll likely just run them through the Square App.

Refer a second bank account to Square and get the $1k referral bonus for the original account and $1k the new one.

I've got about $3k in $200 gift cards I need to liquidate. Just haven't gotten around to it. I zeroed out my UR balance. Trying to build it back up and the Square app seemed to be perfect for that.

bump.

And I only got $400 worth which came out to:

2 X $200 GC = $400 + 2x $6.95 fee -$20 = $393.90 total for $400 in GC and 1969.5 points.

Didn't feel like it yet to go too overboard with how many I will get until I know how liquidating goes. I have til the 16th as we know.

Whoops, didn't see your response. Ya, that sounds like a good idea. I'll start swiping.

Heads up to the guys wanting to use points for the IHG Bora Bora property...

Current deal going on is $565 for 100,000 points. Even if you don't want to do Bora Bora, there are plenty of IHG properties that cost more than $283 per night. I plan on trying to do Bora Bora next year...but figured even if I don't, there are plenty of US properties I could use the points on and still save a good amount of money.

I have been reading this thread for a while and wanting to get into point collecting. Currently have Amex Hilton (used to do a lot of Hilton property stays with business) and SoWest visa for regular spending. Take a trip with kids every other year with points(flights and hotels).

I will be having a onetime $3k-$4k expense in addition to regular spending of about $2k next month and might as well hit a spend on a new card to get bonus. I never carry balance. Always pay off statement in full. Credit is not a problem. What is my best bang for the buck for flights? Any airline that services NOLA, IAH, HOU, BTR is good. Have about 80k in United. so if there is something nice out there I'll add to it.

United currently has a 50k offer. I think that's about as good as it gets with them.

I applied for an Ink Plus at my local Chase branch (hoping they might have an annual fee waived offer, which they didn't seem to, though the person helping me didn't seem to know much about the card or the offer, but I digress) and was not auto-approved, which wasn't surprising considering I was applying with my social as opposed to a tax ID number. Anyway, I just fired up Mint and noticed a new Chase account with a 10k limit. Loaded up Chase and saw that was indeed a new Ink card.

That rambling anecdote was solely to ask the following: is it normal to see an account added online without having received a welcome email? I assume the card is in the mail, but I still thought it was odd to "stumble" onto my approval like that.

If I'm recalling correctly, the same thing happens when you do reconsideration over the phone. The person tells you you're good to go and the account is created, then you get a welcome letter in the mail later, no email.

So it wouldn't surprise me since you talked to a person in branch.

You seem to have left out a detail. When you weren't auto approved did the rep push it through?

Again, she seemed unsure of the whole process, so what exactly happened is up for debate. I believe she indicated that, because it was a business card and I was applying with a SS, she couldn't push it through. In fact, now that I'm thinking back on it, she specifically said that I would receive the answer via mail within whatever length of business days they say.

I will say that I left with the understanding that I hadn't yet been approved and with the intent I would be calling Chase on Monday to ask if they needed any more information (which is what I did when I applied for the Bold).

Huh. If it did go through this would be normal. But I can see where the confusion comes from since the rep said nothing And was clueless.

Calling Monday isn't going to hurt. I'd call and word it in a way to not mention the non auto approval. Just find out if the account was opened because it seemed like the rep you worked with seemed confused.

If open good. If not you'll have to do the explanation hurdles anyways.

Did you buy a branded gift card (I bought Whole Foods) or a vanilla reload?

Ah didn't think about those kinds. If I recall there isn't much I'd actually use but I should look again.

You should check. They have a pretty solid offering. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find at least one or two places you shop at occasionally. For example, I can see their Lowes gift cards coming in handy at some point.

I thought the US Airways Companion Pass was no more for new applicants after the merger. Lo and behold when I got home, there was mine in the mail

I was planning on calling Chase today when I got home from the office, but I got my acceptance email this morning. So... Yeah. I have no idea what the reason for the delay was
