I found a link on Delta's site to upgrade the card. Can you use a companion certificate when buying a rewards ticket?

I really wish my company let me book my own international travel and reimburse me. First class RT to China 2-3x per year would make me a CC rewards baller.

It's a fun hobby. I don't get to take personal travel very much due to my schedule but when I do it is amazing the shite I get for free.

FYI - You can't churn the Same Amex cards anymore. They started that in 2014.

I will call. I did an online chat, and didn't see the upgrade option available to me. The chat agent said I wouldn't be eligible till I had the Gold card a year, which is 3 weeks from now.

So I called AMEX, I got my Delta Gold on 5/12/14, and they are telling me I can't upgrade until June 2015. My problem is that I have travel the first day of June, and would like to upgrade my card and put my June travel on it.
Do you think if I call back around mid May they would go ahead and upgrade my card so I could put my June travel on it, or if not give me the platinum benefits for that travel after I upgrade? Should I call back and ask for a supervisor?

Thats due to Dodd-Frank. Credit card company can make no changes to your account in the 1st year - even at your request

Just an update. I just booked 5 nights at Thalasso Bora Bora on rewards. I now have to book my flights as soon as the aa rewards upon up. Really excited.

Will be going April 2016. If anyone decides to do this trip, let me know, and I can share a trick on reward night booking. It's actually not posted anywhere online that I can find, and I think it is better that way so the loophole doesn't get closed. Someone was nice enough to share it with me, and it turned a miserable experience (waking up nightly at midnight) into a slightly easier process.

I got 2 80k sign up bonuses. I then purchased 50,000 from daily getaway sale for $290 (didn't want to have to wait in statement posting). I already had about 10k and transferred in the rest. I hated purchasing the points (not bad value though at less that 0.6 a point), but it was the cheapest fastest option.
I didn't decide to do this trip until February, and I wanted to go in April of the next year, so that only left me 2 months to get 450,000 points together between hotel and flight. Thankfully, that is the only lost money from purchasing points.

$290 isn't bad at all considering the USD rate is around $900+ per night
I thought about going there for my honeymoon next April but it was already booked. Hopefully getting there sometime in the next few years though
