Can you "deal" with a used car price?

Is there any wiggle room when you pay cash for a used car? Like it is crazy to ask for TTL to be included in the price being advertised for the the car?

And also when buying used other than Carfax and no accidents/flood/air bag deployment anything else to look for?

You can always try to haggle.

I feel like the dealer would prefer you didn't pay cash. I'm sure there is incentive on the back end with banks fees interest rates and financing increases the likelihood u can buy gap and such at a probable markup

More like 100s or a check. Friend owns dealership and no way I'm financing. My dtr will be 16 soon so she will get older sons vehicle (which she doesn't want but I'm not buying 2 cars) so we're looking at a replacement for him.

The price they're asking is in the upper end of the range I'm seeing on KBB, Edmunds and Cars.com.

Why disclose how you are paying. Cash on a dealer lot means nothing. Negotiate the price and when each party agrees to the deal, whip out the cash, sign title, and drive off.

OK fair enough and very great point. So is it rude/ugly/whatever/insulting to ask if ttl can be included in the price? Nothing to lose the way I see it. I hate dealing with friends but they have what we're interested in.

If it really is your friend, ask him whats the best price he can do for you then pay that.

Never hurts to ask, but agree 'cash' is no longer king in the vehicle purchase process

So my next question is price: are Kelly Blue Book, Cars.com, or carguru all relatively reputable sites?? There's about a $2500 variation in suggested dealer sell price.

If that is the vehicle you want and the price is close, I would jump on it quickly. An incredible number of vehicles destroyed in the flood wil cause a rush on quality used vehicles . Of course attempt to negotiate but now is not the time to be hard nosed, it is a sellers market.

Not only is cash not king, most dealers hate it, no money from financing.

My advice is like the others above NEVER disclose you are paying cash or you will be paying a premium for doing so.

When you buy, treat price, trade in value, and financing as separate items. If dealer refuses, walk out. Never tell them more than you have to. Remember the dealer must make a profit to stay in business, but you do not have to over-pay.

You can deal on the price having purchased a used car about 3 months ago.
Also, leverage maintenance, if you're buying from a new car dealership because factory parts were in stock.
I checked and had a motor mount replaced and front and rear brake pads.
Checked a lot more, but everything else was fine.

Coach, don't act like a bunch of dealers don't hammer people. If the general public knew how many different ways a dealerships makes money, they'd punch the salesman in the eye, hit the sales manager in the head with a keyboard, and throat punch the finance manager.

How about you lay it all out for us just this one time. Please include explanations of holdback; finance reserve; how much markup is added to warranties, gap, ect; the quota bonuses from the manufacturer; the bonuses from the finance companies; etc.

If youre bored, you can also explain some of the dirty shite that your salesman, sales managers, and finance managers use to confuse/trick the customer.

And just for skits and giggles, you can add examples of some of the 6 figure annual income that most sales and finance managers, and some salesman, make.

If the people at the dealership do things the right way, I do not begrudge them their pay. I would not want to work until 7pm AND Saturdays. If they have it so good you might want to consider a career change? I can assure you, working and meeting a sales quota is a Bitch. (Not a car salesman and none in family). $100k is not that great in today's world.

Why is it dirty for a salesmen to make a profit or a Dealershipn but then you go buy "Beats headsets" that cost $12 to make and you pay$199?

Because the Beats price is non-negotiable while car buying is a pain in the arse due to haggling and hidden fees.

The dealership lobby is such a BS legal overreach. We should have warehouses with every make and model available at a sticker price. Purchase products the same way I buy ketchup at Costco.

That would be for new cars only. Carmax does that model and the reason you haggle instead of go to Carmax is because you choose not to pay for the $3,500-$4,500 "no haggle" markup and take it like a champ without asking for a better price.

If you don't want to haggle save up your money and pay cash at MSRP. I'm sure it'll be a more pleasant transaction for you and the dealership. Very similar to Cosco ketchup
