Could he ball out? Go for trips to Bora Bora or Istanbul for a few weeks on his off time? Get his own boat?

Even if you had free room and board, likely not.

You should at least double that number.

I knew a guy that did.

He had a little camper he lived in and a workshop he parked it next to and connected utilities to. He golfed, fished, did what he wanted.

It's pretty clear you're an alter. And your posts suck, FYI.

Not a king. How many kings you've heard about who live in a camper?

Well he did what he wanted when he wanted unlike us responsible types with homes, real jobs and families so we were always jealous..

Easily.

*If* you don't blow it on eating out every day, don't buy too much house/car/etc.

So..selective ballerin'.

Hypothetically speaking, with zero mortgage and no car note, single and no kids...50K is a lot of money.

I make more than double that and I don't "ball out" in bora bora.

As was said before, if you don't have a house or car note, you probably could at $100,000. However, assuming that the person in question has a half million dollars in assets is a big jump.

Rent: $2,000
Car Note: $750
Boat Note: $750 (you should never finance a boat)
Boat maintenance and storage: $250
Food: $750
Entertainment: $1000

You're at $66,000 cash right there. You'll need to make over $100,000 to bring that mug home after taxes and deductions.

750 car note? I'd not do this. Ever. That's me. Buy a used BMW or something if you want an expensive car.

I thought my $300 note sucked. I must be such a cheap bastard

Ball out would be hard for me to do regardless of income I guess. I'd be like Whoopi handing over that check to the nuns in Ghost.

I made ~$50k living at my parents house for the first 2 years of my career our of college. No rent, no car note, no food, no utilities, etc. I literally paid for nothing except food and booze.

I lived like a college kid putting ~$500 in checking and the rest into savings every paycheck. That $500 is what I lived off of and I still had a lot of fun. Could I have lived like a king if I spent the rest? Probably not. That's not my style anyway, but financially I could have done some cool shite but living like a king would be stretching it. Wouldn't have mattered as I didn't have the time.
