Amex blue cash preferred. 6% back on groceries, 3% on gas and department stores, 1% everything else

This plus Citi's double cash are the only cards you'll ever need.

I'm debating between the chase combo mentioned here and the mix and match also mentioned here with citi plus amex blue.

Any thoughts about why one of said combinations might be better than the other? Gracias!

I can only speak on the Chase combo. Reason I like it is because you can combine the points of both cards and use it and I tend to use it for travel which helps...bigly. Love the 5% rotating categories quarterly(Freedom) and double points on travel/restaurants(Sapphire).

With the chase combo, can you log into your account and see all your accounts together? That would be a nice little advantage. The citi 2% flat cash back just seems really nice paired with another rotating cash back card like Amex. I'm really torn.

Yes. Easy to pay both cards. Any acct you have with Chase would be listed.

Basically, Chase will not allow you to open any cards if you have opened five or more accounts from any bank in the last twenty-four months.

Amex blue cash rewards is better than the chase freedom imo.

Looks like Jan-March is 5% back on gas and April-June is 5% on groceries for the Freedom card. Amex is 6% back on groceries and 3% back on gas all year. I did a quick spreadsheet with $600/month for groceries and $100/month for gas (your spending probably differs). With Amex I'd get $234 back from Jan-June and only $105 back with the Freedom card.

Only thing Chase offers is that your points are worth 25% if you use them on travel. Even with that, the Amex is better

damn you, hook. I was almost sold. What if I did chase unlimited + sapphire for every day purchases, travel and dining and also go the amex blue for groceries and gas? Is to crazy to juggle all that? I currently use the capital one venture card for air miles, but feel like the reward percentage is too low.

I use both the sapphire and amex. Really just the sapphire at restaurants/fast food and anything that's not grocery/gas/department stores

The 1.25% (1% + .25% if used for travel) is better than Amex 1%

Alright, thanks for the info guys. Think I'll start with chase unlimited, and build out from there.

Just read the fine print. If you get your groceries primarily at places like Target or Wal-Mart, they don't honor the 6% cash back on groceries there or at other "superstores and warehouse clubs".
