Can you tell me about better hustles? I’d like to own something like those degenerate stores that sell pipes and fake weed but it seems like that market is pretty full

A rest area along I-30 in Arkansas has the vending machines behind thick steel bars with barely enough slot to get your hand through for inserting a credit card and retrieving the item. If you drop your credit card inside the cage, you are screwed.

When I saw the cage, I wondered how many vending machines were destroyed by thieves before the owner went full Fort Knox on security.

I inherited a medium sized vending company and ran it solo for 1-2 years before selling it because it wasn't worth the hustle and aggravation.

It's a bad day when you show up to load your machines and discover that the night shift completely trashed your machine, broke the plexi and stole everything in it just because someone got a Snickers bar hung up on the dropper. And that's on top of all of the other repairs and problems from normal wear and tear.

I can elaborate more about other general trends if the OP so desires.

Yes. 84.

Bought a company back about 10 years ago. Warehouse, vans, and machines. Do around $25-$30k a month in sales. About 55% of that a month goes back into product. 18% of that goes into labor.

Build a relationship with your local Coke and Pepsi distributor. They’ll provide you machines and maintenance if you sell their product.

Don’t do Sams Club for anything but candy. They don’t sell 20 Oz sodas and limit on chip assortment. I use Vistar. Pepsi products are outrageous wholesale, so most of the drink product I sell is Coke. Coke products run me about $0.92/per bottle and sell for $2.50/each. If I’m not making 2.5-3x my cost I don’t sell it. I use convenient store pricing to set my pricing.

Thanks a lot. Do you have to buy a certain amount from Vistar to get those coke prices?

I don’t do drinks through Vistar. Only chips, cold food, snacks, etc. You get delivery as long as your order is over $750. I spend about $4k every order. Vistar does sell sodas, but they’re higher wholesale cost.

For drinks, you’ll need to find your local distributor for Coke and Pepsi and set up an account with them.

Awesome. Any good places to figure out which type of chips/snacks to put in the machines? We're struggling with that right now.

Depends on how big your machines are. Ours usually go 3 rows of chips, 2 - 3 rows of candy, then pastries at the bottom. Find something cheap and big you can make profit on with pastries. Like pop tarts or super sized rice crispy treats. $2.50 across the board for pastries. $1.75 for chips. Candy we roll about $2 or $2.25.

Prepare for summer. Have a set up where your chocolate doesn’t melt. Not sure how many stops you’ll have, but candy bars will melt in a heart beat.

Also, stay away from can soda. If you have a van and you take one curve too fast, you’ll have an enormous explosion in the back and shite gets everywhere. Can’t stack cans high because they’ll slide. We stack bottles damn near to the roof and strap them in.

Frito Lay, Herrs, and TGIFridays brand chips are normally what we put in ours. Those brands can be found at Vistar. For you, I’d buy candy at Sams. You can buy why you need. Anything from Vistar is going to be a high quantity order.

Remember expiration dates. Always check dates at Sams. They’ll let some stuff sit on shelves and be expired. Also, go east on diet soda. It expires 3 times as fast as normal soda and will taste horrible. Shelf life on diet soda is usually a month. Normal sugar soda about 3 months.

What do y’all think about those RF machines. If it’s in a nice spot… guy on Twitter said his average spend was 10-12 dollars. I’ve seen whole gas stations like this! Once you have that fridge open it’s a compulsion buy.

Between loading/unloading and purchasing the products I always found it was very time consuming.

Also someone is always and I mean always trying to hijack the best spots so after a year or so and many thousands invested, someone's good buddy could easily evict you from your honey hole.

I would MUCH rather $100k income vending machines than from rental property. So much much more liquid and so much less capital intensive.

Yes.

They are work.

Well, I guess I had, because that shite is for the birds. They do make money but they are a headache. Its the theft attempts, hang ups, vandalism. Rarely is it the machines themselves but when they screw up they can really be a PITA. Basically any business that appeals to a wide range of clientele is going to have shitty customers.

I own a lot of rentals and a law practice. Tell me something I don't know.

Thankfully these 8 are at an army installation so not worried about thefts/vandalism/etc. We do plan to install small cameras on any we buy elsewhere though

Those are both good machines. Also try to find a current vendor to give you the best company to rebuild validators and coin mechs, You will definitely need a few extras.
