I think it's been successful. If we make the CSW it will be very successful. If we win it all it will be wildly successful. But yeah it's been successful.

I think how they finish will be interesting.

Team went from 13-17 in the SEC to 17-13.

That's improvement...especially given the fact that LSU returned very little starting pitching. Really wish Landon M. would have been on this team.

there was almost 100 years between LSU baseball being invented and LSU baseball making it to Omaha.

don’t get where this “0 starting pitchers” comes from when he had a guy who was a successful Friday starter as a freshman who hadn’t lost a game in 2 years,

Who is that guy?? Because Hilliard has NEVER been a Friday night starter. Ever. Until this year by defacto

I think it was a huge success!

He’s recruiting his arse off. He’s coaching hard. He’s pieced together a pitching staff through a gauntlet of SEC play. I think any coach would choose pitching and defense over offense, but LSU is a team that goes as the offense goes. The defense is below average, which IMO has been a bigger issue than the pitching. But, recruiting is very strong, and I think the future is bright.

I think he did fine. If he can get most of his recruiting class on campus, it will all take care of itself.

100% yes.
17-13 in SEC play, will get to 40 wins and both with no pitching and injuries at crucial times? Of course it’s been a success.

Deflecting doesn’t change the fact that we did have a returning starter and a successful one at that. And it wasn’t “by defacto” he earned the spot from not being wanted at all to getting into the rotation on Sunday and working his way to Friday. You should know what a term means before using it.

Pretty damn good considering every player he was able to bring in that I can think of contributed mightily Berry, Cooper, Rezelymen, not sure if Jobert and McManus were already committed when he was hired or not but he got alot of those guys to campus. Who knows if Coleman stays healthy where we are. But i think it was a very solid season considering.

Not yet. There is no buzz around LSU baseball. People are not flocking to Alex Box. Most of Baton Rouge has no idea they’re playing for Omaha.

Start winning regularly. Get ranked top 5. Make people take notice. Most importantly, go to Omaha. That’s what defines success at LSU.

Johnson can still do it in year 1. If Crews, Berry, Doughty, Morgan, Dugas can be their best, it might just happen.

If Vanderbilt-slayer Jobert shows up, God have mercy on the rest of the field.

And? There’s nothing incorrect about my statement. This Jay Johnson trial run did in fact have some ups and some downs. I just call it like I see it.

You’re right. It’s easy to spot the Mainieri apologists in every thread of this type. It’s bizarre. Mainieri was a really good coach when he gave a damn, but unfortunately you have to go back several years to get to that time period. He needed to retire bc the program was headed in the wrong direction for 2-3 years.

Johnson inherited a few players who can really play. Beyond that it’s an unbelievably mediocre collection. To win 17 sec games with this group is a good season.

For whatever reason, many of the posters on this board seem incapable of being objective. They prefer blind loyalty to a coach over discussing the evidence and outcomes.

Yes, really not sure how we did as well as we did with the starting pitching that we have.

Definitely did some good things, and had it not been for what schloss did with the aggies I think cjj would have looked even more impressive. I hate those aggies.

I’m just ready to see what a normal offseason looks like. We’ve got a ton of draft risks signed that could certainly make next year look different one way or another. Then to see how aggressive he pursues transfers with an already full roster.

If lsu gets beat out in this regional...nope...if lsu advances and wins 1 game in supers, then yes. Bottom line is bottom line. He will be judge on his post season performance.
