Can't believe people are giving eye rolls to this. Just saw the replay for the first time, and believe as I thought seeing it live: Absolute most garbage call by an official I've ever seen -- pure fricking garbage. Oh and here

Here's a guy who, with all probability, will never score a TD again. I was pissed too that it was called back, but at least the coaches will have the attention of the players when they talk about doing this stuff.

I'll be interested to see how many times this is called all season and some clips of the times the taunting was far worse and wasn't called.

Shouldn't of been called but the refs do get pressured to make those calls. I would be more in favor of the rule if you were penalized in the same way the face mask is.

So this means he is free to break the rules?

The rule is new this year and refs are looking out for it.

The call was the right call and I am sure that if this ever happened against LSU everyone on here wouldn't mind that call going for LSU.

Watch Referee Letter B throw the flag not the one that was running with Brad Wing but the referee by the goal line. He was anger that he scored.. He threw that flag like he wanted to shove it down his throat.

That official sucked the entire game.

Blown PI on Beckham when guy ram over him.

Bad call on L. Edwards late hit.

Bad no call on obvious horse collar on Ware.

Refused to throw flag on block in back against Claiborne that an official 30 yards away had to throw flag on.

And Wing's BS call of course.

That guy was full if fail ALL day!

My bad if backjudge threw flag on Wing. Thought it was linesman.

You nearly have to freeze the shot to show him with his arms out.

Man, I'm watching and rewatching this clip... this was a special play... I was cracking up when I saw it in real time... but watching it over and over again, I don't know that I've seen anything like this watching LSU... when Gary Danielson says "Oh man... here we go" I just start cracking up. God damn I love LSU.

Really? As written, they seem to be intentionally vague, essentially boiling this flag to a judgement call outside of specific examples, none of which Wing seems to have specifically done and certainly his actions were not as egregious as the examples provided in each sub-category. Here's what LSU posted regarding the rules, emphasis added to point out that the rules are specifically vague, IMO.

quote:

"No player, substitute, coach or other person subject to the rules shall use abusive, threatening or obscene language or gestures, or engage in such acts that provoke ill will or are demeaning to an opponent, to game officials or to the image of the game, including but not limited to:

(a) Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s) or ball at an opponent, or imitating the slashing of the throat.

(b) Taunting, baiting or ridiculing an opponent verbally.

(c) Inciting an opponent or spectators in any other way, such as simulating the firing of a weapon or placing a hand by the ear to request recognition.

(d) Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon himself (or themselves).

(e) An unopposed ball carrier obviously altering stride as he approaches the opponent’s goal line or diving into the end zone.

(f) Removal of a player’s helmet before he is in the team area (Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts; equipment adjustment; through play; between periods; and during a measurement for a first down).

(g) Punching one’s own chest or crossing one’s arms in front of the chest while standing over a prone player.

(h) Going into the stands to interact with spectators, or bowing at the waist after a good play."

I love it, Florida fake the punt and les Miles showed Charlie Weis how you REALLY do it.

My thoughts exactly. It just went to show much in control we were and how much confidence each LSU player had, including the punter.

I can see a Wing tshirt now.

He opened his arms up and looked back.

He clearly did this by doing the first thing.

Neither which actually resulted in him "Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s), or ball at an opponent."

You have to be unopposed for that restriction to apply. I wouldn't really describe him as being an unopposed ball carrier when he definitely gets touched by the defenders a step or two into the end zone. Also, I've looked at the clip and wouldn't say he altered his stride when his armes opened up. He slowed a little bit before that for a block, but seemed to be running for all he was worth after that. If there was a change in stride, it definitely wasn't "obvious" as required in the rule.

Actually, it is the dumbest rule and call I can imagine. Seriously, as I said elsewhere, it seems like a rule made up by middle aged white guys who think they're instilling sportsmanship. What a fricking joke. Honestly. Was anyone offended by Wing sticking out his arms and looking at his pursuers? Really, we're going to take points off of the board for that?

So long as Miles sticks around Wing will score regularly. He's a serious weapon.

Truth is...nobody on this planet knows what Wing's intent was...but Wing.

It was a judgement call...period.

And a bad one IMO.

I just saw an OU player do some Roger Craig high steppin in endzone after TD...surprise...no flag.

Judgement call.

Plenty of opportunities prior to today's game to make that call. Other opportunities in the game to make that call (Florida playing making the cut throat sign).

My opinion: The ref saw that this was an opportunity to make the call without effecting a sure blow-out.
