Stupid post. All of those except for Yankee Stadium have huge fences which is the reason for the shorter distance. And Yankee Stadium quickly jumps out to the power alleys.

Yes, but you missed the point. Baseball fields are not all the same (cookie cutter). Some are 405 to center, some are 435. Some are short with high fences, and some are short right down the lines with short fences (Yankee and Fenway right field). Are you telling me that Babe Ruth's homers don't count because he played on some fields with a fence about 275 feet away from home plate?

I'm all for safety, but the new bats have practically eliminated the home run. So, the tigers have two options:
1.) recruit the fast .400 hitters
or 2.) move in the fences. I like it!

Let's put one of those orange netting fences out there like in the charity softball games.

Has anyone talked about moving the intimadator in front of 1st base yet. You know, just to make the game interesting.

Don't Auburn and Vandy have variations on the "Green Monster"?

I say move the fences in 5 to 10 feet with the new bats. If we have to raise the fences a little, you would have more doubles and triples, not warning track outs.

I've got an idea.... go to wooden bats and maybe college baseball would be considered a real sport.

Do it like the original Yankee Stadium. Make the outfielders chase balls around the legends.

how about a train track thru the outfield like the hackensack bulls?

Have Monty Brewster pitch and John Candy catch.

That is something I have never understood. If NCAA wants to get the bats to better simulate MLB bats. Why not just use MLB bats. Simple solution. Sorta stupid to for the College baseball players to aspire to MLB but not use the same bats.

I'll offer the opposing view...

Why make all college players use MLB bats when maybe 10% of them will ever play pro ball ?

no don't change a thing plus you lose a few hundred seats if you move the fence up.

Most college baseball programs lose $ already...using wood bats would make them lose more

I say instead of the "warning track", we dig a "warning moat" and fill it with piranha, just to make the game more fun.

Tell that to bat manufacturers, without whose financial contributions college baseball would sink even further into instability.

I was actually thinking the same thing this weekend watching several Katz' wall bangers. I'm not saying I'm for moving the fences in because I am a fan of small ball. In the end, I don't think it would make a huge difference one way or the other. Homerun totals would go up some, but outfielders wouldn't have as much territory to cover. If we ever have an outfield of JMitch, Landry, and Mahtook again, no ball would ever find a gap. (relax, that was sarcasm)

I am curious if any school has even considered moving the fences as an option.

Move them in for the bottom of the inning and back out for the top of the inning!

This is the thing about the bat change that really makes no sense. If college baseball is so strapped for cash why deaden the bats and make the game less exciting.

I agree. I say 250 ft max and everyone can go yard. It'll be like the steroid era all over again, except not.

At 10-15ft closer (where the warning track begins) homers would still be down from last year. Hardly GORILLA BALL. (188 HR)

Lose a couple hundred seats? Add a couple hundred more in the outfield. College baseball will lose a lot more fans per game the way it is.

LSU has 18 homers this year w/o Mahtook's 13!! I used to go to games as a kid hoping to catch a homerun.. Now you have to hope there's a tailwind so you can see one.
