This is EXACTLY what anyone that even remotely followed college basketball expected. Take the LSU off the jersey for a sec and ask yourself what kind of success do you think a guy who in 11 years in the Sun Belt compiled a conf. record just 3 games over .500 (.508) and NEVER won a reg season Conf tittle or NCAAT game would have at a power conf. school?

From day one everyone knew that Jones would likely improve the recriuting at LSU but that he was a below avg coach. Well...in 2.5 years that has proven to be entirely accurate.

This is an understatement...

And...
quote:

His teams have won 39 games over those two years (the most by any LSU coach in their first two years as head coach in the Southeastern Conference era) and the Tigers appearance last year in post-season made him only the second LSU head coach in SEC history to take the Tigers to a tournament in the first two years.

Yea this isn't the year we all thought we would have. And Jones definenty deserves a lot of the criticism that he's getting. Butt, the 2 things that is killing us in games are stupid mental mistakes that turn into turnovers and missing FTs. And we're still 16-6 right now. If I was told before the season started that we would be 16-6 at this point, I would be happy with it. The catch is that most of the games we lost were to teams we should have beaten.

Not upset, if based upon talent, because they're not as talented as many suggest..

But, if talking hunger and nasty edge, even with the demanding minutes for the starters, this team, staff, and bench, just seem largely milquetoast in fire, hunger, emotion. Very subdued from the top on down.

A reflection of their HC?

And yet that "historic" run has resulted in an 8th and T-6th place finish in what has been one of the weakest periods in SEC basketball history and zero NCAAT appearances. But hey, we made the NIT last year!! (So did Trent Johnson in his final year)

If everybody that should stay, stays, and if we get two or three top-50 recruits to join them, then bring this up next year at this time if we are seeing the same situation.

We don't have a center - period. One needs to develop over the next 9 months.

We don't have a player who can consistently create shots where none otherwise exist. We will have that with Simmons. With the collection of talent returning and arriving, that will become the "it" factor that changes the opportunities for everybody else. Without the shot creator, we are simply too easy to defend. For now, stop any fast break opportunity and you stop LSU.

We have four reliable players and five when all are healthy. Not sure they are all there right now.

You need eight reliable players to contend at the Dance. You need ten to get beyond the Sweet 16 unless somebody completely explodes and takes their game to the next level.

Take stock in the fact that we haven't been blown out. Hope for a close game against Kentucky [win or lose]. LSU is playing to the level of their competition and that isn't a rare occurrence in college basketball. Its a long season. That's why most teams that make it to the Dance that don't win their conferences are measured by what happens the final three weeks of February.

Exactly, and that's signs of a bad coach.

You're right! Most probably did expect that a career .500 coach would be able to consitently beat the worst teams in leauge

I'm pissed about our bad losses, but North texas had never accomplished shite in 100 years prior to Jones. He was worshipped there, and their message boards verify that. His conference record there is skewed because it took him a couple of season to get things going.

With that said, our three horrible conference losses are inexcusable

I keep hearing such things as "Anyone could win with this talent." and "With this talent we shouldn't lose games."

Maybe, just maybe, this team isn't as talented as we thought they were.

Check out some of the non-conference games he got fat on at North Texas....I've looked this up a few times and he played teams that Southern would demolish. This was a putrid hire plain and simple, especially when we could have had Tony Bennet.

Ok.....we have 2 guys who will allegedly leave early for the NBA. And even if is we don't have talent, who's responsibility is that?
