Manieri has that one guy every year that he refuses to play regularly, regardless of production.

Maybe Romero should be starting, but CPM should continue to give Pap opportunities, because he could improve like Stevenson and Kramer. And he is a better catcher.

The other thing to realize is that Romero has been given selective opportunities. When he becomes an every day player his average might drop due to the unfavorable matchups.

Ask any hitter and they will tell you that they need to get into a rhythm by getting PT. Of course Romero's BA might drop if he plays C regularly, but it also might rise. I think he's earned the opportunity for us to find out. There is also the intangible of leadership. I get the feeling that Romero has earned the respect of the team with his hard work and blue collar approach.

I believe I've read that it's the reasoning for keeping Deichmann on the field.

Where Romero ranks on the team

Batting Average 4th
Home Runs 1st
Slugging percentage 1st
Rbi's 3rd
At bats. 9th

Romero has 1/2 the at bats of most of our regular starters & more Rbi's than all but 2.
At current pace, Romero would be leading the league in RBI's (given the at bats)
Romero = RBI Machine
Why would any of you want an RBI Machine starting ?

he should be catching everyone but lange. I was okay with starting pap against vandy because of the way they ran the bases, but romero shouldve started 4 of the 5 games this week.
Im reluctant to have an opinion because mainieri has made plenty of moves this yesr ive disagreed with that have worked out or seem to be working out....like deichmann being at 1st, reid at 3rd, sticking with bugg

You don't think that Romero throws to 2B as well as Pap?

If Lange wants Pap back there when he pitches, that is fine, but any difference in defensive abilities between the 2 is more than offset by Romero's bat IMO.

Romero should be starting, plain and simple. Again, most people know this but the one guy that matters.

Hypothetically... if you knew what Bregs thought of PM, would you pass that along? Again, hypothetically...

Nope.

SBA%
Papierski .650 (26/40)
Romero .714 (10/14)

Wild Pitches while catching
Papierski 26 in 29 games (13 are Lange)
Romero 13 in 15 games

Paps defense is not that great, definitely not good enough to keep Romero out of the lineup.

He was favored but saw PM for what he is. In general, he's indifferent.

I don't think Lange is in a position to determine his catcher. Last year seems distant in his performance and Pap wasn't his catcher last year. Right now Lange is LSU's 3rd best starter. Lange needs to get his control back...period. People complained about Reid but I think he should stay at 3rd even if his comp gets healthy. It doesn't mean the bench never plays, but about 65% of the season is over and yes some will do better and some worse in the back third. Still, I think this is so obvious regarding Romero and Pap. One is arguably the best hitter on the team and one is arguably the worse among the players that get ABs. I don't see a major D disadvantage either with my eyes.
