you say this, then go on to criticize another poster for being annoying....EVERYONE on here has a sense of self importance. that's what makes this site fun

don't ever recall there being one. I think most people's gripes are with the constant bickering about every move, big or small. I understand that's part of it and very few, if any, coaches should be immune to criticism, but I also understand why it annoys people and that it gives off a strong stench of self-importance.

That's a fair statement.

Edit: I had a long manifest typed up, but deleted it.

PM is not a conventional college baseball corch. He quite often goes against "what the book says". If it works out, hes a genius. However if he fails, hes a dumbass. Its the same dilemma CLM suffered from early in his career at LSU (and okie st for that matter).

Never said that at all. Their offensive production the last two years has been damn impressive. But let's see them produce for more than two years and produce against decent teams in the postseason before we crown the guy.

I would think that when a coach is added to a staff, and for two straight years you see drastic improvements then the coach is doing something right. In the end, they may, or may not continue their great hitting in the postseason. But you have to remember that they are doing it with a different type recruit than what Miss St, or Ole Miss, or whoever they run up against will be playing with. Almost all of their lineup was passed over by the SEC/Big 12 type teams.

Not terribly annoyed, but your post is just another example of what is off-putting about regular baseball posters. It just gets old having words put in my mouth (or however this translates to typing).

The hell? He arguably follows conventual baseball rules too much like his left/right matchups. The only thing I've seen that he does that other coaches don't is call consecutive pitchouts, which have worked more often than not.

I never said he wasn't doing something right. I actually said it's damn impressive what they've done offensively the last two seasons. I'm just not ready to say he is unequivocally better in all facets of coaching and recruiting than Javi. Can we agree on that at least?

They are also doing it against mostly very poor pitching. Not saying they don't have great hitters and they may have a great hitting coach, but 2 seasons doesn't tell you that definitively.

It took a set of brass balls to move a 2nd round draft pick (and current MLB player) from shortstop to 2B two-thirds of the way through a season in favor of a true freshman. Not only did he do that, but he still got great results from the players that had to change positions. Many players would have pouted or sulked. Instead, DJ Lemahue(however its spelled) and Ryah Schimpf were huge pieces to that title run.

Agreed. You could also argue that the job this team has done, given what we lost last year, is one of Mainieri's best coaching years.

Is this going to be today's fight thread. The Tyler Moore one was getting stale.

Because the coaches allow dog piling in games not worthy of dog piling in years past.

If you are going to take that approach, then you have to dish out skepticism when highly recruited/drafted players don't put up great results against lesser pitching.

The problem is that some posters honestly believe that if you criticize a coach you're an idiot, hate LSU, think you can do better. Then they say things like you've never won a single Division 1 baseball game in your life so how dare you saying anything on a message board about LSU sports. It's bullshite and it's annoying. I bet every single one of you that say that shite were teachers pets who sucked up everyday.

After they say stuff like that all bets are off as far as I'm concerned and I'm coming in guns a blazing. DWI.
