Are there better hitting coaches? Sure, probably. Give me an example of someone who is without question a better combination of recruiter/hitting coach/position coach and I'll entertain the idea

Me personally, I may disagree with the coaches on occasion but I always give guys like Paul Mainieri the benefit of the doubt.

This. It's easy to criticize or second guess a baseball coach because there are literally thousands of decisions, big and small, that one makes over the course of the season. It's easy to pick it apart and find a few things that you could maybe go about differently. But when you get down to it, the proof is in the puddin' and has been for PM for years. We're a top 8 national seed and hosting a regional. I am pleased.

To the untrained eye, that can seem as if someone now "hates" the staff. But to those more seasoned posters, it's simply a discussion on an individual topic.

The "untrained eye" for message boards? Hahaha

The thread about Moore being consistent is full of nonsense about how horribly Mainieri treats his players and this was based off of 1 tweet that the poster of later explained was out of context.

That's one example of LSU fans jumping at the chance to criticize our coaches.

By and large I like Paul Mainieri. I think he's done a fine job at LSU. I don't always like the way he speaks about his players in the press though.

Does anyone have a link to the thread started by a "baseball regular" on this board that wants to replace Paul Mainieri?

So Deggs isn't a great hitting coach? As long as Tony Robichaux has been coaching college baseball, his teams have consistently had great pitching staffs, but his teams were weak offensively. Now in two years of having Coach Deggs on his staff, the Cajuns are completing back to back years of having one of the nations top offenses.

Seems like a solid coach to me.

I don't ever recall there being one. I think most people's gripes are with the constant bickering about every move, big or small. I understand that's part of it and very few, if any, coaches should be immune to criticism, but I also understand why it annoys people and that it gives off a strong stench of self-importance.

2 years defines a coach as "great"?

2011 was one of the greatest seasons in LSU football history. I guess with those results, we should never have demoted Coach Stud and brought in some slapdick who got fired at his last job?

Nothing in Lafayette is better than Baton Rouge.

We have the best coaching staff in the nation, and they never make mistakes, and there's nobody better.

Never said that at all. Their offensive production the last two years has been damn impressive. But let's see them produce for more than two years and produce against decent teams in the postseason before we crown the guy.
