Oh look, someone read an economics book. And now we all know that it doesn't matter where money goes and if LSU plays in-state cupcakes we'll be paying $10k for TVs.

This is such a bogus issue. LSU has played in state school 15 fricking times in the last 12 seasons.

I think that's plenty sharing the wealth.

The Cowboys are a nice crowd to have in the stadium, but some of the other fan bases act like they have to hold their nose as they accept the check.

When the expansion is complete, we should schedule some regional teams or the stadium is really going to look empty. One or two sell outs per year will be the new norm, especially with a ticket price increase! I'll still be there though.

Lets be honest.LSU dosen't owe any of these in state schools anything.
And I don't owe my little brother a ride to school tomorrow.
But it's the right thing to do!

One consistent assumption in this thread, and it's probably a false assumption, and that is that the purse string holders view other in-state schools as some sort of partner.

They are the competition for in-state (and regional) dollars. Not a partner.

You can get just as weak of a team in McNeese, Northwestern, Southeastern etc as Furman and would help attendance for these games plus keep the money in state. Are you gonna tell me McNeese wasn't thrilled to play us? I did hear they brought close to 8,000 which is a lot more money spent than Furman's 800. I'm all for playing in state when it comes to FCS.

If we play an instate school the best choice is Tulane. It is an academic peer we have a long history with them and they are a school of snooty, brats from the East Coast who we love to beat. If only they would come to their senses and agree to come to Baton Rouge and get a nicer paycheck than they get by playing UTEP or NMSU.

Tulane needs to accept the fact that they football wise are a school that cannot expect home and home series with SEC schools. Maybe a 3 for 1 at best with LSU.

In years where we can get 7 home games I don't think playing 1 game at the Dome in New Orleans against Tulane is a bad thing everything 3 years or even their new stadium but the Dome will seat more.

Why does Auburn play Western Carolina?
Why does Georgia play Appalachian State?

Another school Citadel plays Clemson
Add Towson to the list.

I understand the desire to provide a bit of w/l padding, but scheduling these or any FCS schools is just ridiculous. Why would fans of the SEC team playing them even want to show up for a game that is a foregone conclusion, even if that conclusion is a win for the home team. And in the rare but not impossible moment where such a weak opponent manages to win (see App State/Michigan), the disgrace for the big school is complete.

playing FCS schools is for pussies like Fla St and Michigan. LSU should never be doing that.

If LSU plays NSU, they should do it in Thibodaux. That way they have seating for everyone.

Three reasons, first, when it comes down to it, a late year game against a low FBS or FCS opponent isn't super easy to schedule because, again it is a break during which most teams are playing their conference schedules and aren't willing to risk getting killcrushed, even Louisiana schools.

Second, LSU does not exists to subsidize the other football programs in this state. We did Tulane a favor a few years back making sure Katrina didn't UNO their football team. The fans HATED it. Consequently, LSU withdrew from the contract. The fans won't like playing Daddy Warbucks for any other state school either.

Third, LSU's largest advantage in football is that there is no in state peer institution that threatens to take players LSU wants. It is not in LSU's interest to strengthen financially entities that could make it more difficult for LSU to sustain its advantage.
