Do you think he missed the easy layups? Did he miss the free throws? The full court press was a good call and getting the ODU big in foul trouble was an excellent plan. He cannot make the shots for these guys.

Because he is the head coach and it ultimately falls back on him. He recruited and signed these players. It's not like this is his first year coaching at L.S.U.

Because they are an abundantly talented group of players who do not play as a team and lose. Piss poor coaching. He is the coach.

Like someone else said in another thread they really just look like they play street ball out there. They have major difficulty scoring in the half court offense. It just looks unorganized and usually u end up seeing guys just try to take their man one on one. No crisp ball movement or good spacing or moving without the ball.

The big guy Robinson averaging like 1.5 ppg has really hurt the Tigers. Expected much better. Josh Gray needs to be more aggressive on offense to make up for that. He has to be in the 15-20 ppg range. He has the ability

You dont bench guys for a long time and let the other team go on a monster run just because they have two fouls in the first half

Its amazing that some people refuse to blame coaching. I've given Jones the benefit of the doubt, but nothing has changed. Speaking of the press...If it is so effective, why do we have to wait until we are down to utilize it?

We should press all game...I've been saying this since JJ got here. If you want to get out and run then embrace it fully and let your athletes play. Some will say they don't have the depth to press all game but they end up fouling less in the press and it speeds the tempo up.

They would be right to say that. I like the press. It's the one thing we do reasonably well defensively. But you have to go deep into the bench for this to be effective for 40 minutes.

I've given up on Jones being able to teach half court defense. He's proven that's not in his dna. Maybe it's time to go the Loyola Marymount route under Paul Westhead. At least it would be entertaining.

Ha! True, for us old enough to remember.

Look, I like JJ. Everyone who knows him likes him...that's why he got the job.

And recruiting is much more important than anything else and he seems to have that down.

But it's discouraging to see the same issues rearing their ugly head even with the different pieces that were supposed to help allevite said issues.

I'm not even suggesting we press all game. Just don't wait until we are down late.

Jose Vargas should replace JJ at head coach. Then, he can bench and yell at players for committing silly fouls and missing free throws.

I'm not going to "blame" him, but he did make mistakes last night. The last play of the first half was a huge WTF moment. He left Gray in the game way too long. We have not learned how to defend good outside jump shooters.

But overall the offense is more organized than last year. Martin and TQ have improved and Mickey is still playing at a high level. Martin and Mickey just need to get the ball more. Hornsby and Gray need to get better at feeding them.

Haven't you figured it out yet? If the team loses, it's the coaches fault. If the team wins, it's all because of the players.

Its easier to see poor coaching IMO in basketball. These kids have talent but no direction. Its like we need JJ to take a page out of Les' book. Play good defense and ball control. He's just letting them do whatever. Poor shot selection game after game. The guy can recruit, but he needs help coaching.

this must be the case because there is absolutely NO sign that these players are being coached any part of it. Occasionally you might see something random that happens that might appear to resemble team defense but I think that is just by accidental coincidence when the players just happen to find themselves in position while they are all just moving around trying to make plays.

It's been that way forever here and continues under JJ. I'm so very disappointed that I don't even like to watch them anymore. It's just too painful to think of what could be and then to witness the reality.

I'm pretty much done watching. It's not enjoyable at all.

It takes a tremendous amount of energy to press all game. We don't have people on the bench who can come in and give the starters some rest. If we pressed the whole game or even half of it, the starters would be worn out by the time we get to SEC games.
