Who is our safety (DB (qb) next year?

Ricky Jefferson? John Battle? Tommy Lebau? Or Lionel Williams? Just curious who is the current consensus Db (smart (S) defense qb) that is going to be leading the back field.. While beckwith and adams running the middle and edges...... But who will be the leader in the deep passing attack? Because adams and beckwith will have their eyes forward most of the time..

Ricky Jefferson is a damn fine football player and will start. IMHO, of course.

Adams, Jefferson, and Battle will be the top 3.
Eric Monroe will be in the rotation as well.

He wasn't all that special last season...

Neither was Adams and I Expected him to be an All American. I'm gonna chalk it up to Steele. But no way a Senior who has played as much as Jefferson has, is gonna get passed up by a true freshman at that position. Not yet.

Jefferson played well in the first half of the season but struggled some late. Maybe he had an undisclosed injury, maybe teams recognized a weakness in his game and exploited it, don't know really but he'll learn and get better. I hope he make a jump like Brandon Taylor did.

I think it'll be John Battle and Adams at safety with Adams being that in the box type of player. Which he should be because he's great at it. He's a playmaker and needs to be on the ball. Making him drop deep into coverage takes away his best attributes. Battle is long and rangy and has shown that he can drop into coverage. And will only get better. He and Adams complement each other with their skill sets and could be a very good duo back there.
Ricky Jefferson can't be that deep safety. Period. Not his game. Struggles in pass coverage to say the least.
Eric Monroe could see some PT as well. And there's always Ed Paris. Could move to safety.

Don't think this is true at all. While I think Rickey is also better closer to the line of scrimmage, he's not a bad cover safety by any means. He was on the field a lot early last year and got beat deep a handful of times. A lot of that was happening because the player's didn't fully understand Steele's zone scheme.
Athletically Jefferson has everything you want in a safety though. He and Adams will both see a lot of snaps.

im going to go out on a limb and say Thompson is the sleeper this year..

It's a shame Battle will have to miss spring practice because he could have locked up that safety spot opposite Adams.

Your parentheses game needs some work.

In terms of the leader, as you say QB, it'll be Beckwith on the field. He, White, and Adams will be the leaders for the D.
Paris should also move to safety. He won't break the starting two with White and Toliver, but he could definitely beat out Jefferson if he has a whole spring, summer, and fall to work on it. I think he'll turn out like Mills, being a huge playmaker after making the switch over after a lackluster stint at CB. Plus we need safety depth more than CB depth, especially after losing Mills and moving Voohries up to LB and taking what will probably be significantly more CBs than Safeties this recruiting class.

Buddy, no! A "zone scheme" is pretty easy to understand. It might be that he didn't make the pre-snap reads or didn't communicate effectively, but you have to do that in any defense at that level.
Also, in the world of DBs, when in doubt, DON'T GET BEAT DEEP!

Your use of parentheses (curvy brackets) in this thread is bad, and you (OP) should feel bad.
