Are we poor again. LOL at posters that say we can't afford players.

What NIL deals does our women’s team have? What did they have prior to last year?

To the tune of potentially a million or more payroll every year? Plus the same donors chipping in for a new arena, coaches contracts, football players, WBB players, and baseball players.

It's funny that every other LSU coach seems to be doing just fine signing elite athletes besides Matt Mcmahon

LSU has always been able to cheat at basketball, but suddently we just can't afford anyone according to Pirate King. So strange

If this is accurate, we have little to no chance of being competitive in today's market.

Cook reportedly got right in the middle of that $300-400K, so somebody is paying it. But consistently is the worry/issue.

Kind of crazy how LSU was able to get some decent talent here before, but now all of a sudden we can't. I wonder why that is.
Who said we can't? We have been doing OK considering the program was blown up less than 2 years ago.

If you look at how he's come up in the biz it makes sense. Before he got here he only had one year as an assistant at a major college. App st, UNC-Wilmington, and Murray weren't doing a lot of big time recruiting battles.

You could say the same thing about Wade. Harvard > VCU(asst) > Chattanooga > VCU (head coach) > LSU.

I think the difference is that Wade came up as a manager/grad assistant under Oliver Purnell at Clemson, who wasn't afraid to get a little dirty. Whereas McMahon played and coached for Buzz Peterson who...well...never really won anything except the friend lottery by rooming with Michael Jordan in college.

That said, I can't think there is a HC in America who doesn't recognize just how important NIL is. Now, it is possible McMahon hasn't fully embraced the perpetual free-agency nature of it and wants to operate his program more like a mid-major where young guys are expected to work and develop over the course of multiple years. That could be true. But I think he knows he has to play the game in order to restock the roster every year.

There's money out there to support the basketball program.

There probably is but they aren’t spending it.

McMahon has made it clear at press conferences that he is old school. He likes the four year development model. He is not a huge fan of the portal and NIL. This is beyond obvious.

That being said, he needs to change his ways to compete at the top of the SEC. Whether he sinks or swims is going to depend on how well he can adapt to the P6 level.

We have the money and the resources to be successful. We are LSU.

He had better become a fan. Things aren’t going back to the old school.

He needs to build some bridges and the AD needs to help him.

The new arena will be when the money for the players to play in it will come.

I don't think any coach is necessarily a fan of the NIL/transfer landscape because it creates so much uncertainty. But I also don't think McMahon is so naive he doesn't realize that is the landscape today.

This is a big offseason for McMahon. He doesn't HAVE to necessarily get a class of transfers from UNC, Duke, Kentucky, etc. But he has to get players. Florida is a solid example. Their roster looks like a mid-major "all-star" team with players from UC Riverside, Iona, Marshall, Yale, San Francisco, Belmont.

Assuming he can retain key players from this season the excuse parade is (or should) be over going into next season. There should be little reason LSU can't have a season at least like Florida did this year.

Can't we just use that $200-$400 on a defensive tackle or a starting pitcher?

I'm expecting a big portal bro. Have faith. We had a good portal despite being utterly dogshit.

Justified or not, Wade is gone. Time to move on.
