It’s like buying stock, the McMen believe our stock is trending why don’t the buy, I’m sure the stock was low last year

This is objectively false. Attend a radio show at TJ Ribs and you'll see he spends time going to each individual table and speaking to all the people there. He knows them by name.

If those aren't boosters idk who is

I'm one of the most avid LSU MBB fans and I attend as many events as I can. If you go to enough things you start to recognize the same people (as true MBB fans are a small % of the fanbase) Funnily enough, it was the same people there multiple times I went, sitting in the exact same spots.

These people who were also some of the same people who spoke to McMahon at the Maravich Statue unveiling, who were also some of the same people at the scrimmage vs LCU, who were also some of the same people that I've spoken to at multiple OOC games who are in the tipoff club etc.. that have told me insider information that was later confirmed... you don't have to be Gordon McKernan to be a booster

The real money men dont get their updates from a radio show. They call the coach for their updates.

If the coach aint answering their calls the moneys all gone.

Maybe thats the problem.

My comment had nothing to do with Wade, that's why I said LSU.

Even JJ was able to get good players here, he just couldn't coach worth a shite. LSU has had some very talented players come through the program, even before Wade got here. Not sure why y'all always have to bring up Wade.

Yeah no shite. But that doesn’t mean the people who go to the radio show don’t donate to the program.

Besides, with the radio show it seemed like they were there more for the experience rather than looking to be informed. The radio show doesn’t really tell you anything you wouldn’t find out by some other means

Shaq would tell today’s players to earn it first.

Shaq wouldn't even buy his own son a Tesla. I can't picture him giving $1,000,000 to a stranger in NIL

You are correct . I know many of them and in fact, we are (very) minor boosters of the program, ourselves. Matt knows everyone and is grateful to all.

I’m guessing quite a few of these posters on this thread haven’t actually been to any games in the PMAC this year. If they have been, and paid attention at all, they may have noticed that at every game a video piece is shown where Matt is basically begging for money to be donated to the “Bayou Traditions Basketball Collective”.

When Matt first arrived at LSU he had a breakfast where potential donors were invited to meet him and a plea went out for money.
So to say he doesn’t understand the need for NIL donors is false.

Nowadays college basketball teams have staff who deal with NIL, but I do agree with the poster who said you need a big personality coach to make the most of it.

I can’t remember which coach it was, but someone high profile quit coaching last year because he hated what college basketball had become - no longer just coaching and recruiting high school players.

The NIL stuff is ever evolving. The NCAA gave little guidance on what is “allowed” etc. There was a lot of confusion in 2023. The “blue blood” programs always had money coming in - and nothing has changed for them.

“Brother can you spare a dime?”.

It's still slightly shocking to read such a quote. Times have surely changed...

Feel like I should clarify why I said what I said about the radio show.

Obviously if McMahon (and MBB) was more popular, the radio show would not be a good gauge of booster support. Nor would those who attend exclusively be boosters. But the fact that you laughed at what I said proves my point- who cares enough about MM to go to TJ ribs on a Monday night? Obviously you and the majority of posters here don't.. but yet the few times I went it was the usual suspects, who McMahon knew by name. He spoke to them all individually at length before leaving.

That is why I think it's silly to say he doesn't engage with boosters when that's exactly what he does every Monday night. Laugh at me if you want, but if you attended a radio show (or other MBB events that no one goes to) you'd see that I'm right.

Mcmahon did fairly well in the portal last time. I think he is in a better position to maybe raise the level of talent he can get here but all of this pay for play will come back to bite everyone. Paying to win championships takes all of the fun out of college sports and soon there will be no difference between college and pros. Then why watch or follow. Kinda like when the US would play Russia in the Olympics and the Russians used pros against our amateurs. I loved it when our team would compete with them and sometimes beat them. Once we allowed pros that excitement went away because our pros were better than their pros. Eventually lost interest. I think at some level that will happen to college sports. Hard to root for a player who is just going to go to the highest bidder after the season.
