its longer. Steltz played behind some beast at safety. Also half of those awards are academic or weekly awards

The only things I remember about Craig Steltz are that his brother was a better fullback then he was a safety, and he got lit up by something called Dicky Lyons, Jr.

Of course all of this bickering about who the better safety is is just silly because no one has mentioned Ryan Clark. Clearly better than anyone else at safety.

He was an all american safety. I think Reid was better but damn.

He was a 2 time 1st or 2nd team all american.
Steltz was a beast his last year and he had good production, but reid produced for a longer time.

I think he was fine, great even. His game was a lot like Craig Loston's, though. When you think about some of the men that have played safety for LSU, Craig just isn't on that level. No disrespect to him, mostly just a comment about some of the absolute freaks that LSU has had come through the program.

Based solely on college career:

1. Tommy Casanova
2. Patrick Peterson
3. Tyrann Mathieu
4. Morris Claiborne

5. Corey Webster (was hard to decide between all of the safeties that could have gone after the first four listed, went with my favorite player while I was a student, not to mention a two time all-american, second most interceptions in school history, three time first team all SEC and national champion) I'll take that resume against anyone else not including the top four.

I love these lists. It's like LSU football didn't exist (outside of Casanova) before 2002.

way better than reid at LSU

You fricking kidding me?

Reid was key to those 2010 and 2011 defenses. Look at the massive drop off when he was hurt in 2010, cost us the Arkansas game.

Eric Reid is anything but overrated

True. Generation range helps define "all-time" lists.

Ryan Clark didn't really take off with his career until he got into the NFL. At LSU he didn't play like he did in the NFL where he really came into his own. Him and Randall Gay caught fire in the NFL, but was pretty much average while at LSU.

With Clark it was more that the defense around him was meh outside a few studs.

Was watching a game awhile back and he was everywhere. I kept wondering how he went undrafted

Craig Steltz was an all-American and thorpe finalist.

Lead a championship team in tackles

And he ran for like 171 yards vs Jesuit in the Halloween game when I was in 8th grade. RAIDAHS

this isn't even up for debate and Idk how anyone could think Steltz was better than Reid. Mind boggling.

Steltz would have been ejected so many times if targeting was a flag when he played.

pp7... never really tested except when psu burned him twice
Tm7... never really tested
Webster...made plays
Hobley...legit
Reid...hit hard , played middle well
Britt....very good imo

Hm

Corey Raymond always played well at Lsu and did play (started) 8/9 yrs in the league...

Harry Coleman was one of the best hitters...he should have gained weight and played lber

Some of the names mentioned is just hilarious because of all the times many of those names got burned alot .....
