There was a kid from Gonzales, I think. Patterson was his name. He was dominant until he got hurt.

This should never be asked it's no doubt Big Ben. The only reason he ever struggled in he post season was because skip pitched him way too much, but nobody was ever close to him.

I think this is a discussion that is heavily skewed by age. I'm 35, and Ben McDonald is the first LSU player I remember really being in awe of. He was a star before college baseball players wherever considered Stars

A championship clutch 6.2 innings and don't you forget it. Nothing sexier than a left handed curve ball.

Brett Laxton striking out 16 in a CGSO in the CWSCG vs Wichita St as a Freshman should be the GOAT performance as an LSU pitcher.

I won't claim he is the best, but the most valuable pitcher I've seen since 1980 is Louis Coleman. He would relieve and start in the same weekend. Consistently very good.

Big Ben was great and it's close to splitting hairs, but Nola as a college pitcher was better at LSU

30-6 record and only walked 52 guys in 332 innings. That is absurd

Mcdonald had the raw arm talent and could blow guys away but Nola sliced and diced batters and rarely made mistakes

and before guys defend Ben's stats by saying the era was different, while that's true it also wasn't quite the mid 90's era of obscene bats. Pitchers in the 80's still had some sick stats

Ben McDonald by the slightest of margins over Aaron Nola.

LSU has been a team defined by gorilla ball and home runs but pitching has carried them to championships for 30 years.

is my answer. At least in terms of projecting. He's the best I've seen in 20 years of closely following LSU baseball

If we're talking projections, Ben would be at the top followed by Gausman, no? Of course, Ben was over 20 years ago. That being said, seems the OP was asking for best pitcher while at LSU. Projections are a different topic. My pick is Nola. No one was better at getting outs over the course of 8 to 9 innings.

And it isn't even close. At LSU, he was completely dominant.

Really?

Big Ben was 29-14, 3.23 ERA with 373 KO in 309 IP

Nola was 30-6, 2.09 ERA with 345 KO in 332 IP.

Give me Nola all day long.
