When the season is over, who will we look back at as the best player on D?

2011 defense was absolutely loaded but I think almost unanimously Tyrann Mathieu was the best player on that defense.

With this 2016 D looking similar in talent level, who do you think will breakout, if anyone, as the best player on this squad?

Lots of options:
Jamal
Tre white
Beckwith
Key
Godchaux
Neal
Toliver
Donte jackson
Etc.

It won't be unanimous this year (it hardly ever is), but i'll go:

Adams
Beckwith
Key

Tre White and Godchaux will be right there as well.

Jamal Adams is going to fly up the boards. Very instinctual football player. I'm still impressed with his tackles at A&M in 2014

I think I have to wait until the season is over to answer your question.

My prediction: It will unanimous and it will be Arden Key.

Its not and thats not a knock on 2016. Some of you are mistaking potential for talent.
2011 had
8 dlineman make it to the nfl
Minter at LB
The bednarik and thorpe award winners in the secondary.
We had 8 guys in the secondary make a nfl roster. We may never see that amount of talent on a lsu roster ever again.

Downvote all you want. It just proves you dont know shite about lsu football or football in general if you think our returning 2015 roster matches up with 2011.

K.

Youre touting a returning secondary that was 87th in opponents pass completions per game and saying they match up talent wise with 2011.
youre touting a secondary that finished 57th in opponents passing yards per game and saying they match up talent wise with 2011

My 10 year old son knows more football than you apparently because he knows that potential out of highschool isnt talent.

The 2011 D Line was over-looked because of how dirty that secondary was. Brockers and Logan have been very good players in the NFL. I think this D-Line has similar "underrated-ness" if you will.

Beckwith no doubt.
Aranda centers his defense around LBers

Not saying they are as good as 2011 but if some of these guys reach potential, we will be good.

I think last year was a great example of poor scheme fit, hopefully the new dc can change that. geaux tigers

Exactly,
Plus not sure anyone expected brockers and logan to be that good (i didn't). They were a force

Yeah thats a big if.
I just find it hard to believe our 2016 dline will be more talented than
Brockers
Logan
Edwards
Mingo
Montgomery
Rasco
Ferguson
Johnson
All guys that made nfl rosters.

Well sure Aranda is a huge upgrade.
BUT we may never see a lsu defense with the nfl talent of 2011.
Brockers
Logan
Edwards
Mingo
Montgomery
Rasco
Ferguson
Johnson
Minter
Lamin barrow
TM7
MO
RBrooks
Tharold simon
Brandon taylor
Craig loston
Eric reid
Jalen collins
All those are nfl players on that 2011 roster. Thats insane and to place that label on 2016 is unfair to 2016.

It will be Key. He was very good as a true freshman.
