I am sure there were louder but I have only made a handful of games in my lifetime.
got this about # 5 on my list at least when twillie had the pick in the end zone..

I don't know about a moment....but totally agree that the loudest game was USC 79....
I was in high school but that game is legendary. Others from that time have said the next closest was the 1997 game against Florida and the one moment would probably be the 1988 Earthquake game against Auburn.

I bet if you put a decibel meter to LeRoid Jones' TD in the first half it would rank right up there with any single moment in my lifetime.
I would agree with this
the whole 79 USC game crowd noise was unreal
it might be the winner ya know why?
USC Trojans still talk about that game. When Ronnie Freaking Lott says it's the loudest crowd he has ever heard, in his CAREER than something was accomplised

Why doesn't LSU install a decibel meter to record shite like this.
When we scored the touchdown in ovetime against tenn.
When we scored the touchdown in ovetime against tenn.

these kinds of things get me going:
Ronnie Lott quote:
that's a serious statement about TS circa 1979
I want my ashes left there when Im gone, making it known now
Ronnie Lott quote:
quote:
But Lott, now a businessman in the San Francisco area, still speaks of the game in a kind of incredulous tone.
"Every one of us left that night saying 'that was a game, ' but I still think about it that way, " he said. "I haven't been in an event like that at any level of football. Out of all the games I've ever played in, I've never been in anything like that, and I am including my Super Bowls in that assessment."

The last post by stapuffmarshy about Southern Cal 1979 is true. The two teams went at it in a ferocity that has not been matched since. Southern Cal came in ranked 1st, and LSU felt that they were good, too. When LSU was ahead late Southern Cal gave it everything they had at a time when they were the acknowledged best (except by the LSU team). For sustained fury by both of the two teams and the people in the stadium it was something no one there will ever forget.

1979 USC game was incredible for the sustained noise the entire game.
As a single moment, the noise that erupted when the refs signaled TD, 1972, Jones to Boyd, Ole Miss, was truly deafening. I could hear nothing but a dull roar because it was so loud.
At some point it becomes hard to compare since once the noise reaches a certain level, it is impossible to actually hear anything, thus "a deafening roar" if you are in the midst of the noise.

Florida 97 was louder than Georgia 03 or they were equal.

I was at the game and LSU scored. It was freaking LOUD! That is the loudest moment in death valley that I can remember.

I was there for Georgia LSU and it was extremely loud and an absolute amazing game, but I remember rewinding the DVR numerous times after the Bama 08 game in amazement at the ferocity of noise that ensued when LSU blocked that kick. It was like all the frustration and disdain was all released in one fell swoop. I sometimes wonder if Tiger Stadium would still be standing had Beckwith went left instead of right; there seemed to be way more daylight in that direction and if LSU would have returned that block, I think you would have seen Mt. St Helens in envy.
