That's probably the baseball team's budget. Stony Brook's athletic department has a pretty respectable mid major budget at 18-20 millions dollars
thanks for the info...I thought for sure i heard total budget...If true that a decent mid major budget..Do they play football?

Early when the Stony Brook Campus was located in Oyster Bay, the team was known as the Soundmen or Baymen.[1] Throughout the 1960s when it moved to its present location, Stony Brook sport teams were known as the Stony Brook Patriots.[2] In 1994 as Stony Brook rose to Division I level in the NCAA the nickname of the team was changed to its present one today, the Seawolves. The Seawolf was said to be a mythical creature from the Tlingit tribe which brought good luck to those able to see it.[3]

Yeah they play FCS football. They recently changed conferences so they could full scholarship and finished last year 16th in FCS. Iowa's Marcus Coker transferred to Stony Brook in the spring and we think we are serious FCS national title contenders in 2012.

Yes. They have a decent 1AA football team, and one of the better basketball teams in America East. They also have a very strong lacrosse program.

Basketball crowd is probably equal to most recent LSU crowds:

They have a decent football stadium as well:

You seem to know about their athletics better than most of us on here. Do I read their website correctly that their baseball stadium does not have lights, thus no night home games?

I think that is the case. If you look at their baseball schedule they played double headers every weekend in conference (Sat & Sun only).

A photo of their baseball stadium from their website. I don't see any light poles in the outfield.

OK. Let me rephrase, does anyone think it is weird that a school whose baseball stadium doesn't even have lights has this much top quality talent on their baseball roster??

Yes, but situation is similar to what you see at Long Beach St, UC-Irvine, etc. Local area (around New York city and Boroughs) has tremendous talent. A lot of those kids don't want to leave the Metro NYC area either.

It's NY's state school... Not small by any means. With a showing like this they will keep a lot of in state talent.

school in Long Island. All the money folks live on Long Island. They have an attitude about that also.
They got their own swagger and a need to get to the Yankees.

strange that this many really good baseball players would just all end up at a small div 1 school in Long Island.

Long Island is chock full of baseball players.

the earliest photo of me is with a small bat in my hand. I was two. I was on Long Island.

At the time I was there, there were two MLB teams on Long Island and another one in the city. 3 MLB teams within 30 miles.
Now there are two, one on Long Island, and one in the city.
People there are really into baseball.

Actually, nearly half the team are from out of state (mostly Penn and Conn, and a few Canadians). I presume they are the scholarship guys and the locals are most of the walk ons.

I had a roommate while at Murray who was from Brooklyn. He was home sick the entire time. I doubt he had been out of state before in his life. You can get NY AM radio in western KY, and we had the NY music jock show he liked, on while we did our homework.

I would guess Stony Brook has a large enrollment than Alabama or Auburn

If Long Island was a state it would be larger in population than Arkansas,Mississippi

How do you mention the Mets, Dodgers, & Giants without bringing up the Yankees? Sheesh!
