I think the biggest concern is injuries. If we stay healthy look out!

I know Steele is the DC but you know coach O will have his say. It's really like having two defensive coordinators.

I read through the entire thread and no one said the corner opposite White. We have unproven guys battling for a spot and whoever wins will get tested early and often.

Can the D Ends hold up against the run and can we push the pocket in passing situations?

Beckwith getting injured would be horrific. He is one guy we can't lose on defense.

We have no depth on D line or MLB. You don't compete for titles without these. I hope I'm wrong.

Poor tackling and players more interested in making the ESPN highlight reel. Poor tackling has been a problem for the Tigers for the last several years.

This.
Steele came from a team that knows how to finish - something that was obviously lacking at LSU.

Chavis was at his best making in game adjustments (most of the time).

I hope Steele will be strong there also.

my concerns about the defense (other than depth) is how Steele will do against the spread offenses.

I'm pretty damn sure he'll be better on 3rd downs and late in the game and i'm postitive he's better in recruiting. as time goes on, we won't have to have these depth issues at DL or LB

not worried at all about Steele. College football you either have the horses or you don't.

exactly, Snyder had some good defenses at tOSU. NFL talent all over that d. then he sucks at tamu, because when their best player went up against NFL linemen, he got worked. chavis won't fund it so easy at tamu, and the talent on lsus front 7 has dwindled since he got here. hopefully we still have enough left, but o and Steele will restock it.

I want to see how Steele attacks the spread offenses.Players make plays and we have a lot of talent all over the field. In my opinion we are small at defensive end, other than that I dont see a problem.

I know Alabama, Miss. St. Arkansas, and Notre Dame all made our DTs look too light up the middle. I'm sure I missed some games in there, but we did improve when Beckwith entered the starting line up.

Getting turnovers is the only thing I want LSU to do better this year!

Getting gashed with screens and draws as our emphasis will be on getting to the quarterback

don't think that is going to be a problem this year as long as the big three (Godcheaux, Locoture, Beckham) stay injury free. They are going to be even bigger, stronger, and more experienced than last year. DE's and LB's(other than Beckham) are relatively small so power running teams could present a problem. HOpe that Steele goes for bigger fast players at those positions. Chavis really seemed to like smaller faster players.

Biggest factor: Steele = unknown

However, secondary is on point.

LB core seems to look sufficient.

DL should be better. Key and/or Washington could be X factor.

Optimistic

Three questions:

Chavis at least had a plan against spread offenses. Bama could never slow them down. What will Steele do?

How aggressive will be at the end of games? Chavis gave up late leads over & over. We have to be better.

Blitz packages/pressure. I watched years of Chavis just lining up linebackers in the gaps 10 seconds before the ball was snapped. That was our blitz package. I want to see if we can disguise a blitz and actually get a man free.

Clark sione and the tru freshman is "key"to the edge.. Lol.. Dline will be fine. Starters at DT our bigger and stronger. Beckwiths health is my biggest worry. Steele will get credit he deserves Imo. He coached under some great defensive minds. Look it up. He was pretty good at Clemson had a dip one year that finished in an embarrassing way. He was fall guy. He recruited some great talent who blossomed at Clemson the few years after he left. He will do fine. Can't believe godchaux-Lacotoure-Beckwith hadn't gotten more love. With Ricky and Jamal behind them speed at olb if our big 3 stays healthy were a top 3-4 defense in sec
