I'm not sure the writing is on the wall in permanent marker, but it's certainly penciled in. I think about what I would do in his shoes.

What would you do in his shoes?

Do you play out your career as a backup at LSU (or even further down the depth chart), hoping to get your shot again?

He's a redshirt sophomore. If you transfer to another I-A school, you only have a shot at playing as a senior. If you transfer to I-AA, you can play for two years, but do you really want to be at the I-AA level?

Please, lay off the insults on the kid. He's given his all for LSU regardless of the results on the field.

i mean... what he should do is hard to say. he probably should rid himself of all of the bad stuff that has happened the past 2 years, and go somewhere else. it's really his decision though. if he decides he really wants to play, then he should transfer to an FCS school where he will immediately play. he's 3 years into a degree, and if that is important to him, then he should stay and finish as a depth guy who can come in if needed.

Study, like every other college student should do. I bet he becomes a great professional whatever he studies. I think he should do the easiest engineering he can, IE or something, and get a job in sales for a large local engineering company. He's worked hard to make the LSU faithful proud, and I think that will translate into the rest of his life quite well.

If I were him, I would look into transferring to a big 10 school.

If playing is important, this is probably what I would do. I think I'd have to go with I-AA/FCS. I'm not sure a major I-A/FBS program would give him a shot, leaving him with a lower tier team. It's probably better to look for a higher-end FCS team.

Not really knowing how all of this stuff at LSU has affected him, I can only guess that it HAS to be insane to deal with what he has. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to take it. Either Miles or Lee (or both) have done a knock out job dealing with it.

Still, I would have to think the kid wants to play. I'm not sure LSU is going to be the place for him to be successful.

... and I do think he can be successful.

To have a shot at going pro? Really?

Stay on the team...get his education...land a good job...a hot chick...a nice house..a golf club membership...you know, what everyone wants. He's achieved a great deal so far, no reason to think he can't have it all in life. Starting for the defending national champions is a helluva go at it.

you may be right...

the KID has "BALLS" and character and all of the morons try to do is tear him down hiding under the cover of "LSU fan"...

I would tell LSU to shove it and go and prove myself elsewhere...I think he could play for a decent O Coordinator that would use HIS talents.

I think LSU has treated him well. I hear what you're saying about them not building the O well around him last year though. I was never a big Jimbo fan, but he did seem to tailor his offense around what he had.

i would transfer to a 1AA school if I were him. I am still curious how things would have played out if he could have learned the ropes, and started as a junior.

Moon the LSU student section and tell them to kiss his arse, then leave. But I know he's better than that.

Stay on the team as the third stringer and collect a national championship ring in 2010.

probably what he is doing...man up, and keep giving it his best.

if he does transfer...I-AA would be his best bet. get back on that horse as fast as he can. historically, there are many nfl qb's who came from small schools.

totally agree...some people think that 'timing is everything' and the timing was never right for Jarrett Lee. he is a good kid and will be a fine man no matter what has or will transpire at LSU. I will always be in his corner.

Work harder on improving his game, esp in the offseason...QB camps, etc.

I find it odd when other players transfer due to depth issues, ie Tim Molton, Ricky Dixon, Phelon Jones they are said to be quitting on the team or too scared of competition. Why is it different for Lee.

I disagree. I think that Crowton has ruined him. He was thrown into the proverbial SEC swimming pool without a life preserver by an inept offensive coordinator and a head coach who doesn't seem to have a clue. LSU's lack of a true QB coach hurt him, and is still hurting Jefferson, tremendously. Crowton and Miles turned Lee into the head case he is today. Why do you think they are babying Jefferson to the extent that they are? They don't want to be responsible for a repeat.

How many other QB's in LSU came in as a Freshmen or non-seasoned SM to take charge of a team.

I look back at Matt Flynn. He backed up almost his entire Fresh, soph, Jun year and then was the starter. Marcus Randall wasn't in my opinion a great quarterback. He was decent but had weaknesses just like Lee.

According to Tiger rag:

LSU Quarterbacks of the 2000s – Year by Year
Year Player Att. Comp. Yards TD
2000 Josh Booty 290 145 2,121 17
2001 Rohan Davey 367 217 3,347 18
2002 Marcus Randall 181 87 1,173 72003 Matt Mauck 358 229 2,825 28
2004 Marcus Randall 162 102 1,269 92005 JaMarcus Russell 311 188 2,443 15
2006 JaMarcus Russell 342 232 3,129 28
2007 Matt Flynn 359 202 2,407 21
2008 Jarrett Lee 269 143 1,873 14
