or maybe they were showing their support and wanted him to stay. Probably the reason the crowd was chanting "Fire Joe Alleva" when Miles was walking off the field after warm-ups

Oh I agree. I'm sort of making a joke about that those threads and how it seems now any sentiment towards Les from some of the fans ends up apparently being misconstrued.

This really wasn't meant to be a troll thread. I like hearing the opinions of what others thought was happening. Like I said, I'm in Tiger Stadium 99% of the time, and I never hear that kind of support for Les Miles during the games. In fact, I mostly hear griping.

I wasn't at the game, I went to Houston for the Saints game (terrible decision )
but I agree with you. It was a send off ovation.

There were several signs held by the people who sit near the LSU tunnel. One lady held a sign that read, "Les Miles is LSU". I thought you might be related to her.

They kept showing her on TV. I knew that sign was going to be rustlin' some people.

It was a send off in my area of the stadium. I think that will be the only time you will ever see a stadium chant the coaches name, he be carried off the field after an ugly win to complete an 8-3 season, and the coach be scheduled to be the coach the following season. I feel extremely confident people just wanted to show appreciation as they assumed the school was transitioning to a new coach. i have always liked Miles, but after Alleva got the process going I think it is a thing you can't turn back from due to how it hurts the coaching stability perception. I hope they fire Alleva today.

Additionally, has anyone talked about how hilarious it sounded for the student section to chant "We Want Less!". The student section seemed happy with the continued 3+ losses of recent seasons.

The vast majority (not just the students as others have contended) were screaming to keep Miles. Anyone saying otherwise either wasn't there or is too consumed by their hate for the man to see reality.

Also noticed and was very surprised after reading this board all week, that 90% of the people I spoke with wanted him to stay for at least one more year.

That's OK, most of the posters in this thread weren't either.

The crowd clearly wanted Les to stay, just look at the pre-game walk, the standing O, and the multitudes that actually stayed after the game to see him.

People saying anything else are wrong.

It's all open for interpretation, but I was there and the idea was that this was his last game and we were all giving him a proper send off. He had his family there, the players hoisted him up on their shoulders, he waved his hat around the entire crowd.. it was an emotional experience and it was a great sendoff for a coach that has been the face of LSU for 11 years, and LSU's winningest coach in history.

Unfortunately, it was all for naught.

every single reaction, from as soon as Les walked in to the players carrying him off, were the actions of everyone thinking it was his last game

I have no idea how someone could think otherwise

come on guys, its time to put on your big boy britches and admit....you cant change a darn thing on this website....for you 50-100 non fans....you had your arse handed to you byb the powers that be. Bye bye Jimbo......Bye bye to your negative hopes for next year......Im going to enjoy tour assaults on Alleva, and our esteemed baseball and basketball coaches as they too will never come to fruition. Thanks for the jocularity over the past 2 weeks.

This is an excellent thread and should be discussed. I was there and most people, my self included, thought it was a done deal and wanted to thank Miles for the excellent work he had done with the program. I was ready to begin a new chapter wth a new big name coach.

When I heard the news that Alleva was keeping him, I assumed the reports from earlier in the day that Fisher said no were true and now Alleva was trying to save his own job by acting like the crowd demanded Miles stay.
