I agree with you fully. I think people are overblowing the linebacker situation when the 4-3 DEs we have will becomes 3-4 OLBs. The problem comes with the DL and if they can play 2 gap and if the ILBs can hide the lack of a nose guard.

I don't think Beckwith is entirely ready yet but he'll make a contribution in the NFL early with his size. Similar to Kwon leaving early making a contribution immediately with his low 4.5 speed.
First off why are people are saying he is not ready yet?
Second he is not like Kwon in any way. Except both played LBer at LSU.
He will make a contribution next year wherever he goes. He is as ready as he will ever be . Sooner he can get to the second contract the better.
He is gone, we got screwed in LB recruiting, pay the price and move on.
We should recruit atleast 1 QB, 2 OL, 2 DL, and 2 LB. After that 18 give or take to add or subtract.

We got screwed on Garrett and we let Young walk out the state. You can't miss on instate linebackers when they come around. Louisiana just doesn't produce great linebackers. LSU is always going to have to pull out of state kids. Our defense is going to suck arse next year.y

The usual Miles mismanagement of the roster. anyone who thinks that we will be able to win in the trenches in d with consistency next year is fooling themselves. We are very small in the front 7 next year.

We may get Joyner that would be 3 freshman LB not great but at least we have some good future LB. With 6+ DL coming in and 2 5 star guys in the secondary this class will be special on D.

We could move a couple of our DE's to LB because they are small enough and quick enough.

Yea I saw Sione play some outside linebacker this year. Maybe he is an option.

I was thinking that Thornton might be moved to LB. I was curious if Caleb Roddy was a fit for Mike too.
We need to upsize some of our LB's.

Corey Thompson might have to move down and play linebacker like Hatcher did in 11

Thornton is a 100% a LB

Frank Herron
He has the potential to be a dominant DT.
He flashed this season in limited playing time (I don't know why he didn't start and/or play more). If he continues to develop, and get opportunities, he can be an all-conference caliber player.

If Lac stays(70% chance - I know, I know, but must keep in mind that he may have had enough and will take what he can get)that will help, and some DL highly regarded freshmen may be available.
But next year overall, it could be difficult to play modern football defense using different packages, "heavy" "light," etc. with only a few upper class players. I think we will be constantly needing to disguise a weakness which will challenge a DC severely. Next year perhaps we shouldn't automatically criticize Steele if the defense struggles against the power teams ... he didn't create this personnel situation.
Looking back over the last three recruiting classes I'm struck with how many "DEs" were signed. I suspect that someone thought college football was evolving toward universal spread offenses requiring a lighter, faster front line. Fine...until you have to stop Alabama or Arky. Perhaps some of those DEs have the speed to fill in at LB... haven't really analyzed that.
In any case, LSU could use a couple of big body JC DL players for next year...or find some OL who can play defense. A couple of LBs wouldn't hurt either. Those are positions that it is tough for freshmen to fill.

Re: DTs. Here are all the DTs on this year's roster. Two Srs will be gone, possibly LaCouture. That leaves three non-true freshmen DTs on roster for next year. Perhaps there are some OL that can switch over... but depth could be be a problem
Those two seniors didn't play at all

Yeeessss now the youth excuse can be used next year too.

If Beckwith is not ready, can't he continue to improve and get ready in the NFL, while getting paid to do so? This 'he's not ready' argument is from fans that know we are not ready to see him go. He's gone!

Well Garrett is now the number 1 rated juco LB n the country

Hold walk on tryouts.

This is becoming a complete fallacy in the NFL. Everyone's so worried about hurrying and getting into the league whether they're ready or not they never make it to the second contract. Look at Michael Ford and Sam Montgomery who are now playing in Canada.

Losing Garrett, Bain, "The Ghost" and Lmfao really hurt the depth on this defense. Garrett really hurt because if he would have lived up to his hype we would have him back for his Junior year playing the middle.
We put all our eggs in the basket with him and it failed miserably.
