2. You can get a homer/alumni/former player to do color, but your play-by-play guy has to be a pro.

#2. If a guy commits to the University for the rest of his career, falling in love with Louisiana, integrating into the culture, and learning about the traditions will not be a problem, and choice #1 will happen naturally.

I think I'm w/top water. Or, at a minimum, I agree, understand, and like your point - I know exactly what you mean, and can remember so many times knowing pretty much what was going on in the game when I got out of the woods / back the truck. A man could listen to Hawthorne for two sentences and know where LSU stood strictly over the degree of Hawthorne's "I am so pissed at what I'm seeing down there tone."

If rumor is true that GA Southern announcer Chris Blair is a finalist, then it's a slam dunk! Blair is head-and-shoulders above the other announced "local" candidates.

I want a Guy that doesn't know crap about LSU. A clean start. Bring his own personality to the broadcast, and not try to be somebody else.

FWIW, The GSU guy is impressive.

Another name "rumor" is Brett Dolan, former Astros, ESPNU and Big-12 PBP guy. Wealth of experience and another very formidable candidate. Apparently wants to stay on the Gulf Coast.

Here's a call game:

The guy doesn't have to bleed purple and gold. Just be knowledgeable of the various sports and control the flow of infornation being provided via the radio.

I agree with this.

Also, while I want someone that loves the Tigers, hopefully they could also be a realist. A commentator that gives a fair shake to both sides. For example, I can't stand how the Bama Radio guy refers to the Tide as "The Good Guys."

Sure I want him to be excited after a big LSU play, but I like when they give credit to a great play by the other team from time to time. It makes the call sound less negative during a tough game.

Cullota and Prince were playing audio of the outside LSU candidates - the Astros play by play guy was pretty good

Wait the entire list of candidates is out? I saw the list of locals but they didn't reveal who the national guys were.

Why would the Astros play by play guy want the LSU gig?

A lot here seem to like him. Is he the inside favorite?

He doesn't do the Astro games any more. He got caught up that Milo Hamilton fiasco, and when new management took over Brett Dolan and Dave Raymond got fired.

I saw Dolan this past spring doing games on FSN.

what a novel idea. radio guys are not near as good as they were in the day, esp baseball guys.

tv announcers have pretty much always been bull shite artists but you can watch the action for yourself. radio requires artisanship.

Just listened to some of Chris Blair and I can see why so many like him. I would hire him without even interviewing the others. I will be pissed if it's not him. Speaks clearly and paints a picture a lot like Jim Henderson

This. No Twangers. Nobody that sounds like Curley Hallman/Kevin Steele. (Yes they both sound the exact same. Hope Steele can coach better than Curley)

No Local Yokels that sound like they're on Valium and shouldn't even be among the finalists.
(Hanigriff)

No pretentious fops that try to be too cute with all their annoying on air BS. (Rollins)

A play-by-play guy is not supposed to be an on air cheerleader. (As much as all you Ultra-Pumps would love that.) Just give me a guy with a pleasant mature neutral voice that lets us know what's going on down on the field and states the fricking score more than once in a half........

No locals.
A quality vocal timbre, able to audibly describe formations, catch substitutions, and all the lil details that most took for granted from JH, all with a minimal amount of syllables.

PbP guy should be all bidness...lay back in the cut and let CC do his thing.

Personnel, Tiger lore etc can be learned, and LOVE for LSU will come to him effortlessly.

Hope to God Hannicap not on short list even.
