What are your sentiments regarding Hawthorne's replacement?

Specifically, would you prefer:

1. A guy that bleeds purple blood, farts in gold colored hues, gets as mad as you when we lose, and is a name that you instantly recognize as being in love w/LSU?

or

2. A guy whose voice makes that of Ron Franklin's shrivel, wilt and run, paints radio pictures like Faulkner does with the printed word, but wouldn't understand a reference to a skule, thinks an andouille is the meanest animal in the swamp, and thinks that a billy cannon comes in various calibers.

Me? I gotta say, I'd vote for the homer. I do NOT want unbiased commentary during our games. I want me an advocate.

why can't it be both?

or maybe 80% #2 and 20% #1.

Obvious choice (both) is obvious, but I'm more curious as to what folks would want given only the two extremes.

I want a really great radio voice, not a redneck like most of the other sec voices...

That's what i liked about Hawthorne, he had a pretty netural accent unlike the other twangy voices in the sec.

if those are my only two choices i guess give me 1. i grew up with guys that botched plays (hawthorne) and radio guys that could barely talk (buddy d, condon, etc) I'd get by without 2.

great point. i think most of the guys in the running don't really have southern accents. i guess the closest is rollins but he has more rasp than accent.

They need to have some knowledge of Louisiana and LSU history.

I think Ed Orgeron should retire from coaching and take the position.

Someone that can primarily let me know what is going on in the game. I don't want a cheerleader, because they can get just as pissy as they are happy.

Just let me know what is going on, I can get pissy or happy on my own

Cullota and Prince were playing audio of the outside LSU candidates -
the Astros play by play guy was pretty good
did not like the Pelicans or Ga Southern guy

I still believe it ends up being someone with LSU ties already

They can study that. No need to have lived it.

I'd have to go w/ the #1 guy.

If our luck in getting an announcer is anything like our luck in getting "unbiased" TV commentators, we'd get someone like Gary Daniels that would just constantly stroke the other team the entire time he's calling the game. At least this way, when we get those type's on TV we still have the radio to turn to.

If so, then the choice is Wright. I just don't see Rollins or Hanagriff getting the job. I've said that several times before. Of course, I am wrong about almost everything I try to predict on here...so take that fwiw

I just want someone with a great radio voice that give you great moments like Hawthorn has given us. As they work for LSU, they will become a homer. They will be around this program constantly and learn to love it as well as learn all of the culture and tradition that exists. Just give me a great voice.
