We're staying in Gonzales tomorrow night and probably going to leave the car at the hotel and call a cab (Uber won't pick up from there) to get to campus so no drunk driving after the game.

How easy/hard is it to get an Uber after the game? And what kind of surge pricing are we looking at?

We'll probably stay out a while after the game so it won't be directly after. Probably after midnight.

I tested it last night when it was 1.7x surge and it was only like $40 to get to Gonzales, but I assume it'll be worse after the game.

Do you think that Uber cars magically avoid contraflow traffic?

It'll be 5.9x rates at least (I don't know how high it can get) from 11pm to 2am. That's what it was for me after the ole piss game

I think you're looking at a $100 ride at the minimum

That's what's great about Uber. Some Uber drivers will be out at the games themselves. All you have to do is request one on your phone and leave with them.

It ain't good.

I took a $150 Uber in Houston after the bowl game last year. I'll never take an Uber again.

How long after the game was it?

Well that's pretty silly. I take it frequently and it's rarely over $10.

For the ole miss game we walked from the stadium to lee road and highland and got an uber there for like 4 times surcharge. We were monitoring the app, and until you get out of the bottleneck you wont get an uber or it will be an insane bill.

Not ideal, but it worked in the end i guess.

It's much cheaper if you leave at halftime. Surge doesn't start until closer to the end of the game.

yeah that makes sense. I know the surge pricing is only for specific areas in order to draw more drivers there.

I wonder if we walk a good ways from campus and the bars it'll get cheaper?

not silly at all. I took Uber in Atlanta on a routine Saturday night. 12 mile trip, with surge pricing it cost $90.

No thanks. I'll just drive myself, manage my drinking, and avoid paying that absurd price.

Leaving the bar at 12:30 or 1 will probably be 2x or 3x. Leaving at close will probably be 6x. I'm just basing that off Ole Miss weekend though.

Regardless, you know you can check the price before you request right? To totally dismiss a very convenient and usually cheap service based on a couple of rare expensive rides, when it tells you the price beforehand, that's indeed silly.
