UNO did the same thing, doubling the ticket prices for the LSU game last week, only difference is that $6 tickets became $12, so it didn't look as bad.
UNO and Tulane fans that are not season ticket holders pay the same price, so I don't consider it gouging.

just shows you how chicken shite ( no offense cluckster )the tulane athletic dept is.
last night SLU charged 10 dollars. I am willing to bet that tulane's athletic budget is a hell of lot more than SLU's, still they didn't pull this shite.

this is true for the most part, but all private universities (yes, even the ivy league) have grade inflation. college rankings have created an extremely competitive environment in higher education.
Agreed. Plus you want to keep those big tuition checks rolling in. I would put up an education from UVA, UT, Mich, UGA, LSU, TA&M etc... up against most top end private schools (Ivy League Included). The Ivy League gives a great education don't get me wrong, but the "Name Recognition" is the biggest selling point for their universities.

There is also not an enormous amount of LSU fans in the Hammond area. LSU has a huge fan base in N.O. and Tulane is trying to get the LSU fans who want to see the Tigers but not have to drive up to BR.
An earlier poster made a good point, just the drive up to BR from N.O. would cost a fan about $15 or so extra then just attending a game in their home city.

What are you basing this on??? Not to mention Mandeville/Covington is only 25 miles away that's just silly to say.

I'll just say this regarding Tulane's academics: for the 2009-2010 school year ... approximately 43,000 applications ... approximately 6500 accepted.
I'm an LSU fan and my daughter goes to Tulane.
Sure, there are delusional Tulane fans.
But come on.
Enough of this bullshite that Tulane is no better academically than LSU or any of the state schools.

I got an athletic scholly offer from Tulane but turned it down cause i figured i would not be able to keep up with the work. Looks like i made a good choice.

The size of the New Orleans metro area as opposed to the size of the Hammond metro area.
BTW, Covington/Mandeville is also about the same length drive to N.O.

We never said it wasn't harder to get in, but the education you receive from Tulane is not any better than most big name public universities (especially in the technical fields).
Where did you get your stats? They seem a little off IMHO.

I got my stats from the Tulane website.
And "quality of education" is subjective; the way you use it.
Without re-reading this thread I think someone applied this line of reasoning to the LSU and other public schools vs. the Ivies.
And there could be SOME truth in it.
But the bottom line: employers and personnel headhunters at the top firms and companies don't say: "Hey, I know you got as good an education at old state U as you would have at Harvard, so we're not fooled by the 'name brand.'"

Trust me, I have taken engineering classes at Tulane and at LSU/UNO, and the degree of difficulty at LSU/Uno is much higher that being said Tulane is NOT known as a "technical" university more of a liberal arts school.
As far as the acceptance level I'd be willing to bet that 43K might apply but only 6500 decide to attend. Tulane's admittance standards are not that much higher than LSU's anymore. I also guarantee that Tulane makes exceptions for all those folks who can afford the $30K in tuition w/o financial aide.
Second of all Tulane's rep is NOT in the league of the Ivy league or MIT, Stanford, Duke, etc... but it does have some positive name recognition I give you that.
I have nothing against Tulane don't get me wrong. I just think they think that their rep is a lot better than it actually is...

quote:This is false. It is much harder to get into Tulane than other schools in the state. Do I personally think the tuition is worth it? Not unless your parents are loaded or you want to work at a big company out of state in the financial field. Loyola is a much worse investment.

Admissions selectivity = better academics?

We should just stop playing them and let them fade away into d2 status
Posted on 3/11/09 at 2:22 pm to heartbreakTiger
I dont understand why you wouldn't just buy general admissions tickets, and why you have to tell them you are an LSU fan.
Basically what I'm asking is that I could wear a tulane shirt and walk up to get a ticket and wouldn't have to pay more whatsoever?
On another note, heartbreakTiger I like the woot lights ive been tempted to order them but for no real purpose

I think they are only selling them through Tulane season ticket holders.
Thats what I gather from what I've read.
