I would hardly call that
quote:

Price Gouging
b/c

a) That term should really only be used for goods and services that are necessary. You don't have to go the game if you don't like the $$

b) They have to support a program that doesn't bring in a ton of $$. One game vs LSU would be the equivalent to a weekend series as far as attendance goes.

c)$30 is not an unreasonable price to go see the Tigers play.

Sucks.
LSU has been forced to support Tulane athletics like this for years.
Yet another reason why LSU needs to ditch the football home and home w/ Tulane. Pay them to come here and take their beating like we pay ULaLA, LaTech and Troy (oucH). They are no different athletically.

Because they are so shortsighted, that is probably what Tulane fans want.

Agreed. I will not be attending at that price, but I bet a lot of N.O. based LSU fans would have gladly pay $30 to see there beloved tigers if they had not already seen them (thanks UNO for selling cheap tix). I have a feeling that this game will not be all that well attended...

They are just trying to make more money at the expense of another team. The FB does it all the time with different methods.

Just don't go to the game if you think it is too expensive. You are wrong about Tulane athletically. They have a good baseball team (perhaps not this year though) and are a former football SEC team and, whether you think so or not, they are our rivals. They are a PRIVATE UNIVERSITY with very high academic standards. They are more akin to Vandy or Rice than to ULL or LA TECH athletically. ULL is a joke and La. Tech is on the rise, but will never be able to compete at Division I level. In the past 20 years Tulane has had excellent coaches like Mack Brown, Greg Davis, Tommy Bowden, Rich Rodriguez and now Bob Toledo. What coaches have you seen at ULL that compare? Ricky Bussle?

We play there because they, unlike La. Tech and ULL, have an excellent football venue, THE SUPERDOME. Where do ULL and La. Tech play? They couldn't even handle our crowd. Tulane has had a couple good football seasons in the recent past (including one perfect one, something LSU hasn't done since 1958). ULL went 6-5 once.

Obviously, they are not the tigers, but Tulane's academnic admissions standards and class work is much higher than most of our athletes could handle. In the history of LSU Football, the tigers have 68 wins against Tulane, 22 losses to Tulane and there have been 7 ties. What is our record against ULL and La. Tech? At least Tulane is competitive.

My point is not that Tulane is great Athletically, but they are in a different class of team and university than ULL and La. Tech and Troy and it is just insulting to say otherwise. Academically, they are in a different universe than ULL and La. Tech (I don't know much about Troy).

I must admit that I am a graduate of both LSU (undergraduate) and Tulane (post graduate) and I think it is insulting to both to compare them to the likes of ULL in any manner.

LSU does not double the ticket price for SEC games. They go up a couple bucks.

30 bucks is high but when you consider the gas I burn driving 150-160 miles round trip and the fact that I can be home minutes after the game, well, I will probably go.

Cough Cough BS....

Literally everyone I have ever known that has gone to Tulane (that isnt blinded by hate for LSU) readily admits that they have easy course work.... University wide.... I took this into account when I chose Washington University over them for PhD work.

We have this fight every year. TooLame does everything it can to freeze out LSU and or get more money out of them.

If it were any sort of partnership I'd embrace it. I don't care if they play in good venues, just be reasonable about tickets as well as prices and LSU will gladly pick up the check for lunch every year.

The academic admission standards for regular students may be high, but the standards for athletes is NOT near the same level. I'm just saying...

As far as the class work, the regular students pay $30K a year (maybe higher) so Tulane makes sure they keep their students in school if you catch my drift. (UNO is the hardest school in state at least in technical curriculums b/c they could really give a $hit less if you stayed in school)

I graduated from LSU and yes I have taken classes at Tulane and UNO, so I can compare.

Tulane does have more history. Minnesota has 3-4 MNC, Princeton used to be a football power.
Now, I'd put USL athletic against Tulane. I think Tulane would take most sports in a 60/40 w/l ratio. Tulane has beaten us what, 2 times (and once had some gambling implications)in the past 40-50 meetings in football? If we played USL that frequently, they may occ slip up on us-once --- they beat Texas A&M.
The only reason Tulane is now relevent in sports is because it is in NO. We should give them LESS support than Louisiana's public schools.

tulane's admissions standards for regular students are quickly becoming one of the toughest in the country. the acceptance rate will be under 25% this year with an average ACT of 31-32. having said that, tulane takes any and all athletes that meet the minimum NCAA requirements. we have a school of continuing studies where they are stashed and they have no impact on academic stats for the regular university. and before anyone bashes this practice, most of the ivy league schools as well as stanford have schools of continuing studies.

this is true for the most part, but all private universities (yes, even the ivy league) have grade inflation. college rankings have created an extremely competitive environment in higher education.
