Because those are general admission tickets.

Right now Tulane students, alumni, and season holders can purchase all of the tickets they want at normal price.

General Admission goes on sale on the 24th for $30.

FWIW, I just went and bought 3 LSU tickets for my family for 10 bucks a piece, and got two more for free by going to the basketball game last week.

People often use the "difficulty" argument . However, this can be awfully misleading. I can set up a college in by back shed and make really really difficult tests and assigments. Does not mean the students will learn jack.

From the technical side of things, I think you would have an easier time getting a job having graduated from LSU than from Tulane.

Really, the only use I can think of for a Tulane grad is for a spot on a democrat's campaign team

Trust me, I have taken engineering classes at Tulane and at LSU/UNO, and the degree of difficulty at LSU/Uno is much higher that being said Tulane is NOT known as a "technical" university more of a liberal arts school.

As far as the acceptance level I'd be willing to bet that 43K might apply but only 6500 decide to attend. Tulane's admittance standards are not that much higher than LSU's anymore. I also guarantee that Tulane makes exceptions for all those folks who can afford the $30K in tuition w/o financial aide.

Second of all Tulane's rep is NOT in the league of the Ivy league or MIT, Stanford, Duke, etc... but it does have some positive name recognition I give you that.

I have nothing against Tulane don't get me wrong. I just think they think that their rep is a lot better than it actually is...

I didn't say Tulane's rep was equal to Harvard or Yale. You may have inferred that from my little illustration about personnel directors simply discounting the rep and aura of a school. A school's rep doesn't just happen because they have no better quality of education or faculty etc. than any other school - a school's "rep" doesn't happen in a vacuum.

But academically, Tulane's rep is a lot closer to the Ivies then what you'd like to represent on this thread.

I'm not stupid. I know that not ALL 43000 applicants are slavering to go to Tulane.

But you're bordering on the ridiculous and grasping at straws to say that Tulane admissions begged 20,000 or so to come and only 6500 answered.

Face it ... Tulane is a lot harder to get into than LSU and that my friend, is a reflection of the quality of academics.

I grant that LSU has a great engineering program. So does Louisiana Tech. An agricultural and mechanical school should indeed have great technical programs and granted, the emphases of Tulane and LSU are different.

You say you found the academics more difficult in your field at LSU. I respect that. But we can continue with anecdotal evidence one way or the other all day.

I've talked with Tulane students in the "Katrina Class" who attended Harvard during the lost fall semester of 2005. They said they used the same text books as at Tulane and many of the classes at Harvard were not as challenging.

So if you use the anecdotal evidence argument to say LSU academics are as good or better than Tulane's, I can use the same line of reasoning to say Tulane's academics are better than Harvard's - therefore LSU's academics are as good or better than Harvard's.

I find threads like this get started not by Tulane students, fans or parents claiming Tulane's academics are equal with the Ivies, but by deluded LSU people thinking Tulane isn't an academically elite university.

That my friend, is as delusional as Tulane fans thinking Tulane athletics are on par with LSU's.

I appreciate the substantive dialogue.

Tulane students are just northeastern liberals that are rejected by the real ivy league schools

We play there because they, unlike La. Tech and ULL, have an excellent football venue, THE SUPERDOME. Where do ULL and La. Tech play? They couldn't even handle our crowd.

The do have a great venue... too bad nobody is there to see it.

2008 average attendence: 22,750
Superdome holds: 69,703

May want to look to downsize your football venue so you don't have to jack up baseball prices to support the athletic dept.

First off I would like to take the MITs and Cal Berkelys (Technical Schools)of the world out of the argument b/c IMHO those schools are academically superior to the Ivy League schools and other primarily liberal arts schools and most public universities. Math, Science, Engineering separate the Men from the Boys.

The point that I was trying to get across is that IMHO the level of education provided from Tulane, Ivy League, and public universities like UVA, UT, LSU, MICH, TA&M is not all the different but the thing that the Ivies and to an extent schools like Tulane have more of than schools like LSU is the # of very high ranking people in very highly profitable companies.

Don't get me wrong, WHAT you know is very important; HOWEVER, WHO you know is even more important. If my child wanted to study one of the liberal arts or eventually go to law school and I was gifted with an income where I could afford a $30K a year tuition or he/she was awarded a scholarship to an Ivy league school then I would definitely try to persuade him or her to go to one of those colleges.

UNO did the same thing. It's what small schools do when good programs come to their venue. I paid $8 for my two year to get into the game against UNO.... normally 2 and under are free at UNO games! They get what they can, because they know the local LSU fans will still go.
