I am so glad you were able to save it. Looks like it needs a lot of restoration, but maybe that's just how it looks in the pic and it isn't as rough in person. Keep us posted and take lots of before and after pics!

I'd consider donating that to the Andonie Musuem...

What kind of idiot leaves that in a building that is falling apart? Truly a shame.

This thread needs to be more epic, considering the subject and what you did to get it. Let's get some history on the painting and more description of getting in there and taking it down.

Their was all kind of memorabilia in the Bar and other areas of the motel at one time . Decanters , pennants , pictures , I wonder who got those . I would like to have a couple of palates of that brick .

what memories you have dug up for me. in the late 60's/early 70's we used to go to the belmont many friday nights to dance in the very room where the mural(s) were (i thought there were two). great job saving that painting. it most definately is a piece of LSU history for many LSU fans, esp us dancers. you know you are old when landmarks you used to frequent get torn down because they are too old.

I'm glad someone like you got the mural Greg! I've read about your collection and know you will appreciate the piece and hopefully can get it restored to its former glory!

All that stuff was in Terry's Exxon (Seafood Corner) in Prairieville. He sold it all. There was a Bert Jones game used jersey a friend of mine bought there. The football team stayed at the Bellmont the night before home games in the 70's, that's why there was so much LSU memorabilia there. I'm sure you dig around, you may find a LSU gold mine in there. There are so many rooms just in the main building that probably haven't been entered in 20 years.

Thanks for doing this olegreg. Hard to understand why they did not salvage the paintings earlier.

Great piece of LSU history, glad you're able to salvage it and hopefully restore to good condition.
Kudos to you for the effort.
