Sorry I forgot - Amen

If my memory is correct (and it may not be) he made a marvelous catch near the south endzone (I think maybe 1958) that enabled LSU to defeat Ole Miss in a close one (Maybe 10-7 or something like that).

Nickie Savoie. Dumber than nails but a pure beast when called to block on DE's. He killed at least 5 DB's in his career. Best block ever thrown by any LSU tight end was when he destroyed a LB on a screen pass at O.Miss & our RB, Hokie I believe, scored on a 70 yrd play as a result. It happened right in front of the LSU bench & it went ballastic when the Reb LB was knocked out of bounds from the hash marks.

Richard Dickson was the most productive tight end in LSU history

quote:

CAREER

The most productive tight end in school history with 90 receptions for 952 yards and 10 touchdowns ... Holds the LSU tight end records for receptions (90), yards (952) and touchdowns (10) ... A four-year starter at tight end for the Tigers ... Played in 50 games with 35 starts ... Earned second-team All-SEC as a true freshman in 2006 and then again as a junior in 2008 ... Rated as one of the nation's top tight ends going into his senior season in 2009.

Hokie must have been in his 33rd year of eligibility that year

And LaFleur was 100x better than Robert Royal.

2007 Richard Dixon 32 Rec 375 YDs 5 TDs

1996 David LaFleur 30 Rec 439 YDs 3 TDs
The first tight end to lead LSU in receiving since 1980.

Probably too strong, but I think Lafleur was better. He was an All American and a first round draft pick. The only knock on LaFleur's legacy was that he seemed to be hurt all the time. When healthy, he was probably the best TE to play at LSU.

Royal was outstanding, though, catching 5 TDs as a junior out of the TE position (in Saban's first year), versus LaFleur's 5 TD receptions for a career at LSU.

Royal's NFL career was longer, but, is that question? If it is, LaFleur caught 12 TDs in 4 seasons, while Royal caught 14 in 10 seasons.

Both were good blockers, in addition to their receiving skills, and, professionally, LaFleur proved to be a better blocker than receiver.

lafleur's nfl career was cut short with a back injury. plus he had a retard as his cowboys TE coach

but royal had a LOTTTT of drops at lsu.

Blame Miles' offensive schemes for that. For him, the TE is just an extra blocker.

Richard Dickson could've been an All-American. Seeing as how the TE can really help out a struggling QB because he's usually open, I'm really surprised that we haven't made more of the position.

I seem to recall Bama using their TE pretty effectively against us in the BCSCG.

more like at OC. JJ was at least decent throwing in 09, and he had some chemistry with Dickson when he took over late in 08. but Crowton never seemed to expand on that, or at least keep it going.

and Lafleur and Royal were about equal IMO as pass catchers, but Lafleur was like an extra tackle blocking.

Close - It was a 10-7 Tiger victory, but it was 1961. I was there - my sophomore year at LSU! Ole Miss came into TS ranked #2, but #1 Michigan State had already lost, so a victory over #6 LSU was certain to move the Rebs to #1. Traux caught a poorly thrown 4th down pass from Amadee to keep the TD drive alive (only pass completion of the night for the Tigers!). Ranks as one of the really great games in TS.

1939 First Team All-American
1939 Stats - 30 receptions 467 yards & 8 TDs
Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1963

Not saying he's the best ever at LSU. I never saw him play. Just throwing his name into the discussion.

BOOM! End the conversation if we are talking about their entire career. Was waiting for this to come out.
