What "elite" coaches do Florida, Notre Dame, and USC have? And as far as Jimbo at FSU, they have Noles fans wishing he went to LSU. And Herman at Texas is an extremely unrpoven commodity.

You have like three elite coaches:
Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh

After that it's a whole lot of unknown and potential, and LSU sure as hell could have had their pick of some pretty great up and coming coaches had Alleva any sense in his head.

You fricking idiot, in all those links posted, we ARE up there with all those teams. We're not the #25 coaching destination in the country. Every ranking has us anywhere from #4-#9

fricking loser.

It's people like you that are the problem, the laying down and taking an arse whipping by Troy, and this shite sandwich of a hire saying "well that's just the way it is."

The 90's was gone a long time ago bro, keep it there and let's fricking get somebody that can win us a fricking championship or 20.

I don’t see how it can’t be a destination job. How can a school in the top 5-10 in terms of revenue not be? How anyone can justify turning over the reigns of a 60-80 million dollar business to whatever schmuck happens to be available at the time is beyond me. If LSU isn’t a destination job, why did Miles stick around for so long?

Soooooo where were all those coaches calling their agents to try and get an interview with Alleva?

Want to know how we got Saban? He called his agent and his agent contacted LSU. Saban was not one of the original coaches on LSU's radar screen in December 1999.

Even if you assume LSU isn't up there with these programs, it may be just below a few of them. It's still a good enough job to hire someone better than the worst coach in Ole Miss history, who couldn't even land an interview for Syracuse the year before.

I don't think anyone sincerely thinks LSU isn't a destination job generally speaking.

However, our President and AD are clusterfricks who have guaranteed LSU a very hard go for the next 3 years. It all starts at the top and right now those two are a major hindrance to LSU's success.

So why weren't they lining up when lsu was looking then?

I am sure some coaches not named Tom or Jimbo made back channel communications. Both of those coaches are also in great places, both facility wise and salary wise. There were others that would gladly have listened if Alleva would have talked. We did not have to hire a coach in November. We could have regrouped, assessed the landscape and ended up with a MUCH stronger hire.

Fans don't change. You have no idea about the rest of the country or what constitutes a top-10 destination job. Here is a quote from Washington Post 1979 article about the firing of Charlie McClendon:

"We wouldn't have a Southeastern Conference if they kicked out everybody who didn't beat Alabama," McClendon said with a chuckle. "But people here aren't interested in what's gone on at other places . . . These people here will never stop. They think because it's LSU, it's the best there is. They better get out around the country and see what's going on."

From recent posts, not much has changed. By the way... this article is an interesting read, even today.

I am not even going to bother arguing with someone who says LSU isn't a destination job. You can't argue with a retarded person, it is a waste of time.

I keep harping on this, today, the Wall Street Journal article of September 21 listed LSU as the #5 largest athletic program in the nation, with an overall "value" $910,000,000.00 behind only Alabama at #4, Texas, Oklahoma and Ohio State at #1. The top three worth over $1,000,000,000.00

It's a destination job, and a huge corporation that's being run quite poorly now. When the #5 program gets beat in its own house to a Sun Belt team, and the stadium clears out by halftime, even when winning, something is wrong.

Are you trying to insinuate that all of those articles, from around the country, listing LSU as a top 10 job are somehow all LSU homers?

LSU Is a dream job are u kidding me. Unbelievable talent in state year after year, one of the most prolific producers of NFL players year in and year out, consistent top 10 program, great culture, history, stadium once ranked as top 4 best stadiums/venues in the world, (also see Guinness world book of records, earthquake game), etc anybody got things they can add to this list.

People saying it's not a destination job are just trying to convince us to settle for Ed Orgeron. The fact is, whether we are a destination job or not, it's NEVER OK to settle for Ed Orgeron. EVER! He's not good enough for ANY head coaching job.

So they didn’t come because of the people writing the ridiculously big checks they would be getting? Sure...

"...They think because it's LSU, it's the best there is. They better get out around the country and see what's going on."

So why weren't top successful coaches from around the country flooding LSU with their resumes, and calling, and going to the press about how they couldn't wait to be considered for the honor of coaching LSU instead of whatever school they currently coached? Why did the coaches approached turn LSU down, and why did O get hired if it is such a prestige top destination job recognized as such far and wide?

I think maybe you are a poster boy for being unaware of the situation of coaches around the country. No one who is wildly successful is leaving a top job to come to LSU. Alabama? USC? Notre Dame? maybe ... LSU? No. I suggest you... "better get out around the country and see what's going on."

PS: this doesn't mean that LSU is an unattractive job... just that the program isn't going to get an Urban Myers to come here... period. Better look for an up-and-coming young coach from an also-ran power 5 conference team.

Exactly who do you recommend? Realistically, who do you think can win a NC. Oh and don’t include the names Saban, Meyer, Jimbo, Herman, Harbaugh, Stoops, or Gundy. Realistic expectations here.
