To All Those Saying LSU Isn't A Destination Job
Posted by TigerFanInSouthland on 10/3/17 at 11:37 am497
Athlon Sports LSU #9 in country
SI: Andy Staples Ranks LSU Amongst Best Jobs In USA
ESPN: LSU #5 School In Ease Of Recruiting
24/7 Sports LSU #9 Destination School For Coaches
CBS Ranks LSU #2 In SEC Coaching Job Destinations
USA Today Ranks LSU #4 Destination for College Football
LA Has Most NFL Players Per Capita (2014)
LA Has Most NFL Players Per Capita (2016)
And on and on and on and on.
Saying we aren't one of the best destinations for a college football coach is a loser mentality. And we settled for this.
We have an immense power in our state when it comes to athletics because we don't have another powerhouse program in Louisiana. We share a border with Texas, possibly the best recruiting ground for college football, and we routinely grab players from there.
To say we aren't a destination job is a lie and it shows a loser mentality. I seem to remember hearing how Louisiana as a state was a diamond in the rough for college football due to the wealth of talent scattered across the state, and that was when Saban came here 17 years ago.
We are a hotbed for college football, we can do better and we should do better. And it starts at the top, it's well past time to get rid of the leadership in the athletic department and get rid of F. King.

I hate when people say that

They don't rank them like that. They rank them on facilities, access to recruits vs. other teams in state, NFL talent, etc.

That is before the SABAN handicap. That costs LSU about 10 spots in every one of those rankings.
Yes we have nice bldgs, and the whole state to ourselves (even though we don't have good lineman here but thats another discussion for another day) and a good bit of payroll ability; but it's the most difficult division in football, and the whole fanbase hinges on whether or not you can beat the greatest cfb headcoach of all time with inferior talent at just about every position group. I don't see where they discuss that in any of those 1 paragraph blurbs thrown together by some copywriter.
Seems like fool's gold

Thank you for destroying another ridiculous narrative with facts.
You can always tell the good ones; they present facts and well thought out arguments.
The trolls just hurl insults or post a thread title with nothing in the narrative, then call responders retards.

So why weren't they lining up when lsu was looking then? Jimbo turned us down, Herman turned us down.....
They did it because they knew LSU's talent and experience level was down....they didn't want to come in and rebuild and lose the first 2 or 3 years...
Look at Kirby Smart....I bet if you look through GA footballs forums for the past 2 years...a bunch of posters wanted Smart out....

In a couple of years the LSU job will be even more attractive to top talent. The expectations of the fans will be fairly reasonable allowing a top guy to rebuild and potentially become a local hero. Until he's not of course. Peaks and valleys, baby. How deep this valley goes, I've no idea.

No, they didn't come because of the higher ups. Namely F. King and Alleva.

2 years later and Ed O is the coach...let that sink in.

That is before the SABAN handicap.
People who are, or aspire to be, in the top 10 of coaching will welcome the opportunity to compete with Saban year in and year out.
Those who don't we don't want - it's that simple.

So why weren't they lining up when lsu was looking then? Jimbo turned us down, Herman turned us down.....
And we were behind the 8 ball to both of those schools. Jimbo we are actually trying to seal from FSU, and Herman was already in the state of Texas

Several of those rankings were written over the last two or three years and account for Saban's presence. Jesus.

It's not a question of LSU being a destination job. It's just obvious to any unbiased person that LSU isn't one of the top destination jobs. Therefore, you aren't going to get an elite great coach staying around very long.
Even the Miami Dolphins isn't a premier destination job as evidence by Saban.
LSU just isn't up there with bama, Texas, Notre Dame, Florida, FSU, USC, etc. We can still have good long runs like we did with Saban and Miles. We need an elite coach to set it up, and then follow with a madman who can keep it afloat for a while.

We didn't make a coaching hire within the past 6 weeks either.

What would POSSIBLY make you say that the west in the SEC is the toughest in college football? Alabama and Auburn are the only two schools that are any good this year. A&M is not good, Mississippi is terrible, Arkansas is not good, Miss St just got crushed by Auburn, and LSU just got beat by a team that lost to Auburn by 39. AND LOST to Troy.So 2 good teams out of 7 schools make the west the toughest in college football? Get me some of those rose colored glasses.

The ONLY thing keeping LSU from being one of the top destinations you just listed (I disagree that Notre Dame is one though) is the buffoon Athletic Director.
And that can be remedied very quickly.

People still living in this world where the SEC West is the murderer's row of college football. It's not.

Of course it's still a destination job. LSU just happened to lose a candidate to one of the 10, or so, schools that is more attractive in Texas.
