All good points. I think most, including myself miss Saban's bone crunching defense. It took a little while to come together but it was a thing of beauty. Most LSU fans want a dominant D rather then a gunslinging offense. While both is nice I'll take the D. When Saban was here opposing QB's knew they were in for a long night. They usually spent most of the night on their arse while our D's of late SEEM passive and reactionary. To heck with Saban for leaving and praise to Miles for staying but I, along with most want a better defense.

Ringeaux - well said. TS works best when our D is intimidating (all the noise when the other team has the ball). I dream of and long for a dominant D.

Can we hire we TCU's defense guys (whether the HC and/or Bumpas)?

But when does LSU become elite enough to demand "GREAT" coaches?

LSU is 64-15 in the SEC in the last 6 yrs and by the way...that's an SEC best. Seem a tad elite to me. LSU has 2 BCS titles in the last 6 yrs and by the way...that's tied for a national best. Seems a tad elite to me.

What's been so bad with the 2 coaches we have had? Great or not in your mind, to this point in time who would come here that's done better?

I agree. It sounds like something I have said many times before.

Why pick 2005 to date? The point is that Pete has lost games he should have won, especially considering he had an open invitation the BCS championship in 4 years that he blew by losing to clearly inferior teams in what is clearly an easier conference. Has any coach had more opportunities to play for NCs than he has? Yet he has one BCS championship. Pete is one of the best coaches in college (no. 1 to 3 depending on whom you ask), but he isn't perfect. It happens to all coaches. Why did Spurrier only win one NC? Why can't Stoops win more than one BCS bowl? Why has Mack Brown seemingly underachieved?

All the complaining overlooks the fact that Miles has the best record in the history of LSU. Has he lost some games he shouldn't have lost? Yes, but name one elite college coach now coaching who hasn't.

I'm about to educate you.

How about since 2003, the time of the split title?

2003:

USC - Cal
LSU - UF

2004:

USC - none
LSU - Iowa

2005:

USC - none
LSU - Tennessee

2006:

USC - UCLA
LSU - none

2007:

USC - Stanford
LSU - UK, Ark

2008:

USC - Oregon State
LSU - Arkansas

And I think the SEC is tougher than the Pac-10 too, but USC has absolutely RAPED every SEC team they have played recently. Meanwhile, LSU has struggled with three middle of the road Pac-10 teams outside of shitty arse Arizona.

Pete is so much better of a coach that it's not even funny. USC has two bad losses in recent memory, and that's UCLA 06 and Stanford 07. Teams like Cal 03, Oregon St 06, Oregon 07, and even Oregon St 08 weren't bad teams.

Give me a break with your missing this bullshite about saban and his infallible defenses! We lost by 30 points or more 4 times in his last few years.

I'll take the wins and you guys can continue to drink red kool aid and not enjoy the winningest coach we've had.

Excellent post on the facts. And Miles has recruited some great players too. Not all the starters were recruited by Saban.

Of course that is why you picked 2005, but you should look at the total time that Pete has been at USC, not just frpm 2005. And again, the point is that he has lost 4 open invitations to the BCS championships.

Arizona State was actually a pretty good team in 2005 until they lost their starting QB. LSU struggled in case you had forgotten in that game because of Katrina and brand new DC. Perhaps you also forgot that USC only beat ASU 38-28, and definitely didn't blow out ASU in a regularly scheduled game uninterrupted by new coordinators or natural disaster.

Comparing LSU from 2003 is irrelevant because we are talking about coaches not teams. And specifically we are comparing Miles career to Carroll's career at USC, not Saban to Carroll, and not even LSU to USC.

I am not really attacking Carroll, by the way, but simply making the point that even the best coaches lose games that they shouldn't. The nickname was for effect (read sarcasm), not because I don't think he is a great coach.

So your attempt to educate is a failure because you missed the point entirely to begin with, which is that the consensus best coaches in the country lose games that they shouldn't lose and that the same fans that consistently attack Miles, with the best record of any coach in LSU history would be attacking Carroll too, if he "blew" four relatively easy opportunities to get the BCS championship, if he were the LSU coach. I am not suggesting that Carroll is inferior coach to Miles, but that even he would get a lot of criticism from some of the Rant posters.

Pretty stupid stat and weak flame considering every team in the SEC west accept LSU has a new coach that has only been there 1 or 2 years. Since you started this flame, what is Saban's record at bama against Croom or the coach at ULM? Just wondering...

Ok, since nobody's playing. Bobby Johnson and Steve Spurrier are the only two current SEC coaches Les has a winning record against.

Those are really the only two coaches that have been at their school as long as miles besides rich brooks!

In the West: Houston Nutt at Arkansas is 2-2 (2-1 at arkansas and 0-1 at ole miss)

Saban-1-1

Chiznik-0-0???

Petrino- 0-1

MSU head coach- 0-0

East tie in- Florida- Urban meyer- 2-2

You're little stat is so skewed its not even funny

1-1 vs rich brooks

The truth is its so hard to keep your head coaching job in the SEC because of lil fairweather f*ck fans like you who can't realize when a guy is actually doing a decent job, like winning a national championship. What was sabans record at LSU versus Tommy Tubberville? 2-3, does that mean that TT was a better coach than Saban? Where is TT working nowadays anyway?

ETA- changes made!

Excellence?? Really......wow.

Have they won there conference since he's been there?

A NC?

OSU will be a 2nd Tier school because it's just the way it will be.....OU will always run that state.

Wow, that's an incredibly stupid list for a fan to want. A fan with a brain would want the team to win. Of course, somebody who doesn't give a shite about the team but wants to sound smart to impress a bunch of anonymous message board posters would probably spout off a list of rehashed cliches trashing their team's coach.

I'm so sick and fricking tired of this rah-rah shite from "real fans." I'll try to be brief:

quote:

Who has The Highest Winning % off all LSU Coaches who coached more than one season:

Who's the only coach from that list who took over the team two years removed from a national championship? Who's the only coach on the list who had the talent Miles had when he took over?

quote:

Bowl Wins:

If I have to tell you how irrelevant this stat is, nothing I can say in this post will matter.

quote:

SEC WEST TITLE'S

I'm surprised you failed to mention SEC Championship game losses. I wonder why?

quote:

Time For The FACTS About Our Coach !!

No sir, those are statistics...and like a great coach once said: Statistics are like loose women, once you get one, they'll let you do whatever you want. Miles won a national championship, and sadly, that gives one a free pass to run a team/program into the ground (see Fulmer and Coker) for at least 10 years in the SEC. Is it not clear? We are getting worse, year by year, bad decision by bad decision.

Year by year? We had ONE bad year dude, get over it. Its a good thing people weren't calling for meyers head after their 9-4 year in 07 after their NC. You are the epitome of a POS
